To me it looks like he's just enamoured with the Khaleej & its folk. The guy is rich, is hanging out with a bunch of other rich people in the U.A.E. & Qatar who have welcomed him and shown him the legendary Arab hospitality[he's best friends with some Shyuukh there and seems to have been adopted by one Emirati family, who took him to desert invited him to their homes etc] so take this news with a pinch of salt.

Hyper bro, those lights are not really that expensive and the color is not even a gold. Some of the Somali shops sell lights like that. It is just a set of lights that were made together and gold-looking paint was just added to it.

It is also possible that they come through donations. I remember while working in Cincinnati, Ohio in 2006, Muslims over there wanted to build a bigger mosque due to the growth of the community. A rich Muslim Syrian has donated 5 million USD to the project. They bought a big land and a building with that money. Some Muslims in the home-building business have donated part of material as well, and fancy looking material were part of the items.

Bottom line, looks could be deceiving; that material is not that expensive, but it provides good decorations.
