Also, from the ruling class's point of view -- of the hysteria over Trump's comments about defaulting on the debt, is that it resurrects the debt as a topic of angst, as a major threat to American well being? I noticed on NPR tonight, after Robert Siegel had a grand old time making fun of Trump on the issue, that he managed to remind his guest that the debt is big again -- the two of them kept repeating the $18 trillion figure -- and that it will have to be dealt with.... blah blah...
I guarantee you, the second Clinton is elected in November, we'll have a manufactured crisis about the debt that will prompt some major push toward cutting spending or reneging on any commitments to spend. And that all talk of tax increases will be redirected toward paying down the debt.
