Can you explain to us how Af Maay is a mix of OROMO and Somali? f-king idiot. BTW do u actually believe the people who speak it are originally Oromos? LolPrinceNugaalHawd wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2017 8:40 am The Af Maay Maay is a mix of OROMO & Somali, the people who speak it are original OROMO. they were an early group that moved from the lakes and settled between the rivers and pushed deep inland and had more contacts with the Somalis, & accepted Islam then the GALA or OROMO who were pushed out/back of the Western regions Jigjiga area, Below the rivers in Galbeed, Jubbaland & NFD.
We need someone to study these languages, Gare, Tuni, Jido, May May, Barawani, Marka etc
They are all mixed with Oromo or Bantu the people they originate from or mixed with.
Most Somalis where Northern & Western and Somali clans were pushed by the OROMO/ GALLA from Western regions to the South & Northern Somali clans pushed the OROMO back to their Lands and deep into Southern Somalia/NFD , until we expanded again towards below the rivers in Galbeed, into the Jubbas & Gedo & NFD and met the Gallas who settled their for a while and pushed them out.
They most likely are.Brawler99 wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2017 9:04 amCan you explain to us how Af Maay is a mix of OROMO and Somali? f-king idiot. "These languages present similarities with Oromo" Well duh Oromo is cushtic language just like Somali so of course they are going to be similar. Also the reason why Maay sound different from af maxaa tiri it's because af maay has less influece from other languages like arabic etc...PrinceNugaalHawd wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2017 9:19 amThey most likely are.Brawler99 wrote: Thu Apr 06, 2017 9:04 amCan you explain to us how Af Maay is a mix of OROMO and Somali? f-king idiot. Maay is closely related with the Jiido, Dabarre, Garre and Tunni languages that are also spoken by smaller Rahanweyn communities. Collectively, these languages present similarities with Oromo that are not found in mainstream Somali. Chief among these is the lack of pharyngeal sounds in the Rahanweyn/Digil and Mirifle languages, features which by contrast typify Somali. The retroflex /ɖ/ is also replaced by /r/ in some positions. Although in the past frequently classified as dialects of Somali, more recent research by the linguist Mohamed Diriye Abdullahi has shown that these varieties, including Maay, constitute separate Cushitic languages. They may thus represent traces of an Oromo substratum in the southern Rahanweyn confederacy.[6]
