its forbidden to kill the children , women and elders.
In the war you can not steal the war treasure , mutilate/torture the enemy or kill the Children/women/elders. But some of them are killed if there is a battle or raid during the night because you can't tell difference btw male and female in the dark

And I think you are talking about Safiya (RA) . she is a Jewish descendant but after the Jewish tribe lost to the muslims in khaybar she converted to Islam and if she hated the prophet then why didn't she escaped after his death (AUN).
