If the Italian failed miserably over 70 years to take over Puntland until they launched a heavy artillery bombardment from the sea in 1930, so how can a few rebels armed with ak47 take over us?

There are precedents where a few rebels defeated an army and took over a city of million or more people. It happened in Mosul and other places. PL army is now struggling against 1-2 hundred al-Shabaab forces at Galgala. Imagine how they would fare against 1000 al-Shabaab forces. If al-Shabaab forces can breach military bases (which they've done in Somalia & PL), then local forces are weak. That's why maamul goboleeds have to rely on foreign military support for survival.
