wether its in ur system or not in the end we need to realize that this is not healthy and maliz need to get jobs instead of chewing these leaves like goats.
and also i remember when khat was respected, ppl used to chew it as a relaxation method rather thn a another way of feeding an addiction.
it never got in the way of our family lives or working life.....now it is has changed everything malis stand for[quote]

I am replying to this Khat topic because I have recently been asked to write a report regarding the impact on khat in our UK based Somali community.
My short reply is as follows:
Firstly, if the respondents were patient and read all the information you posted they would see that you have actually answered your own question. As you did not highlight any of the benefits associated with the substance.
Secondly, of course khat should be banned not only because it is harmful to health and family cohesion. From my own personal experience/travel around Canada, USA, Sweden, Holland and China I found the Somalis living in areas where khat was banned were more prosperous in terms of business, education, skill development and lets just say the children had real fathers (not just dads).
Furthermore, I don't think Somali man are lazy, useless, laidback, red eyed and smelly. However, those man that eat/chew/sleep with khat I would use all those words to describe them.
So I guess you could call me the Anti-Khat girl but my view is supported by reality with clear eyed (not red ones).
