Lemma and the ODP are in a precarious situation.

Their leverage and support within the EPRDF hinges on their ability to pacify the Qeerroo, which in turn requires an opening of the socio-political space in Ethiopia.

Whether they like it or not, space needs to be made to accommodate the OLF whereby they're treated just like the TPLF and Amharas who are armed to the teeth.

Lemma is indeed playing with fire. Honestly speaking, he should know better than to try and disarm the OLF.

this is inter-oromo and inter-maccaa competition for power, in Oromia.
OPDO assumed that, since it had the crucial support of Qeerroo fi ummata oromoo, to dismantle tplf,
that it'd always have the hearts and minds of oromos.
but that's not always the case. we always give credit where it's due, and we love abiy/lamma, in oromia and in diaspora;
but OLF is sort of like, the father of modern oromo nationalism.
OLF and the leaders of OPDO/ODP, ironically, have their strongest support in the same areas, maccaa clan areas, like wallaga, jimma, and so on.
however, OLF is loved by oromos from all over, from shawa to wallaga to borana, to hararghe/bale in the east and southeast.
and OPDO messed up their chances of gaining the hearts and minds, of the oromos in the east, when they were ignoring the somali liyyu police aggression in those areas.
the east and southeast, by far, most likely, will back OLF to the very end.

this is why lamma is trying his best to give it some time, and hope, that somehow, the OLF, will agree to whatever his govt is demanding.
because he knows attacking the OLF would result in the destabilization of oromia and thus, ethiopia too.
so he's hoping to avoid this, and at the same time, avoid the OLF's popularity that would eventually outshine them.
essentially, it's almost like the 1990s, in that, the OLF's popularity despite its weakness, is so high, that the OPDO cannot compete on its own merit against it, so it has to ally itself with non oromos.

things are heating up indeed.

i know u are wanting to see the downfall of the oromo
but trust me, your situation will only worsen if oromos are weakened
no need to take my word for it; just look at history
they need to pass through oromia, to get to somali territories
keep this in mind
oromia, especially the east, in and around harar too, is the bridge linking the abyssinians to somalis

OLF must not be disarmed as long as Amhara and Tigre militias are armed to the teeth. It is like repeating 1992 scenario, OLF should not trust Abiye since he's Amhara puppet. I have mentioned countless times about the Amhara ambition in the future, and here we're in the first year of Abiye.

They won’t be disarming, that’s why the fereral troops were sent to Wallaga to forcefully get them to disarm. Not going to happen, we will rather go to war then bend the knee and head back to an era of enslavement mentality. The OLF supporters and troops sent the leader of OLF back on a plane back to finfinne because there was a rumour he was going to get them to disarm. We can easily remove him if he doesn’t want to have a guy and fight for what’s right. As long as the habesha are armed to teeth, Oromos must be armed as well.
