Nowadays, there's much awareness. In countries (like in the Middle East) where cousin marriage is prevalent, a genetic test is mandated for those planning to marry.

Nothing wrong with first cousins, it becomes a problem when the next generation married second cousins.
This would be pretty much the same as f-king your sister. If you marry your cousin your children should be forced to marry as far away as possible.
This is common sense but then you have stupid isolated communities that keep marrying couisns for generations and you get some real damage after a couple of generations.
The numbers of people with genetic disorder in this communities are astronomic..

Islam allows it which is why Pakistanis and Palestinians children have some of the highest disability rates amongst new born children. In the Uk the Pakistani community has so many medical issues because of this.

Well so & so married his cousin or the Asxaaba did it doesn’t work that way, nor were their kids tested. The problem is if you continue to do so over couple of generations.
Somali people usually didn’t marry their cousins back in the days. They liked to marry far from the family as far as another clan. which is healthy & It gives you & your children advantages, you can be safe to travel & trade & settle in your wife’s clans territory. Your children can settle with their maternal family, trade in their territory & travel freely, they will also have the two clans support & protection.
