What would happen to them if they visit the democratic and law abiding country of Somaliland?
They will be imprisoned. Then James Swan and other EU leaders will make a statement and they will be released. There is a reason why the international community did not recognize Somaliland for 30 years. Even when southern Somalia was in a complete and utter chaos, they didn't entertain the idea of recognizing Somaliland. To divide Somalia, a country that is 85% ethnic Somalis with 99% Muslim adherents into two separate countries called Somaliland and Somalia will automatically open the doors where many ethnic groups within Africa will demand independence. Ethiopia will cease to exist. Kenya's NFD will seek independence and so forth. It's a no-brainer.

Well if you were to make arguments based on facts and not emotions

1. Does somaliland meet criteria to be an independent nation
-population of 3.5 million.
-large international port in Berbera.
-Hargeisa with population of about 1 million with international airport.

I think somaliland is large enough and has enough resources to be an independent entity. The international community will not allow it to secede. It’s only chance is to have referendum and for Somalia’s government to approve referendum for independence. That was the case in Eritrea.

Somaliland’s case is very similar to that of Eriteria. The tigray and the tigirinya of eriteria are essentially the same ethnic group. The Tigray President Zenawi made it possible for Eriteria to secede. You can make the argument that if a pro somaliland leader were to replace Farmaajo then it could be a reality. It would be politically disastrous to enable somaliland to secede but it sure is a possibility. Personally I don’t my harti family (Warsangeli and Dhulbahante) to find themselves in a minority status.
