I think early colonial writers lied about Madhiban/skilled guild; "Sambo" effect manufactured by Brits I suspect

Yes, and so too is theft, rape, and murder things that exist in every country and among all peoples...theyuusuf143 wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2023 12:24 amMy point is discrimination against some peaple exists every country, , it's not something special for us because of jaahilnimo and it's not something brought by the colonials . If you go to japan (an advanced country with less outside influence ) you will find peaple with hereditary status of untouchability.Gubbet wrote: Tue Jul 18, 2023 5:31 amIt is mildly contemptible the way Yusuf believes the colonial writer's words are "evidence" as opposed to some to test against "critical analysis," but to. be fair to him his last sentence contextualizes his difference with what the colonial writer is imparting. So in short he was dismissing the colonial writer.barbarossa wrote: Mon Jul 17, 2023 6:23 pm Ustaad Yusuf, has it right.
Nothing that has cadaan stamp of approval can be possibly wrong.
I don't understand the point you are making.
However, your phrase "not something brought by the colonials" clearly shows what may be animating you is a misunderstanding.
I never said the social differentiation was brought by the colonials. Please read back on what you are responding to and clarify that you understood it correct. I. In particular, highlight;
1. "...an already marginalized group of people were retold back"
2. "this narrative is fantastically absent from Italian writers who saw and traveled more widely among Somalis"
Thanx.

Good 3 points that are logically sound.theyuusuf143 wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2023 12:39 am Anigu waxan u malaynaya dadka la yasaa waa 3 nooc uun

I would add one more group;
3. Migrants. Whether internal or external who somehow ended up among nomadic pastoralist Somalis without fixed abode in a harsh landscape requiring stringent social units for navigating basic provisions like water, security, and shelter. Quick attachment to such exclusive social unit for your sense of protection and sustenance at the most existentially basic level comes with the possibility of serious tradeoff/sacrifice/cost---a Client Relationship. In exchange for the protection and community of the unit, now having a "passport" or "citizenship" to Clan X (you drink from where they drink, you sleep where they sleep, and you are defended by their spears amd shields,), you must do the one indispensable work that they could not do. You do the leather and tanning, the tool making, you make the hide and the shoes, the flint and the arrow, you do the "manual labor" the nomadic, "noble" could not do even if he wanted to. The large and significant presence of Gulf Arab J groups among the test Gabooye shows quite the extent of Gulf migration to Horn over thousands of years. Ironically many of those people did not end up being the "Noble" nomadic as Dir, Darod, Isaaq, and Hawiye folklore has it, but ended up among the submerged Gabooye.
