optimist_1, there's little to be surprised about; most stars we admire or used to admire are fakes. Richard Pryor excelled in obscenity and was once the poster boy of cocaine. His very hometown has disavowed him, and here we got "fans."

Richard Pryor was a great comedian. Does it make him less of a comedian because he abused drugs? Does it make him less of a comedian because he was begotted by a harlot? No, he is still the greatest comedian America has produced.

Yes, and I am STILL a fan. I thank the lord for blessing me with a great sense of humour, which allowed me to be able to appreciate this late, great man's God given talents. Anyone dry and as unloving of fun as some here, is truly missing out. I pity them.

P.S His upbringing was indeed unfortunate, as were the circumstances surrounding his death. But they are mere footnotes. Therefore irrelevant.
