Khalid.......you had a good 30 year run, 15 years ruling Lascaanood to boot. However, all things come to an end. Now the iidoors have overwhelmingly endorsed Ciiro and his manifesto. The new president has a clear mandate to pursue his policies.
So far Ciiro is making all the right noises.
He campaigned on a peace platform and renewing political relations with Mogadishu.
I believe the Ceerigabo crisis will soon be solved peacefully. The Dhulbahnte don't view Ciiro as having blood on his hands like your uncle Bixi and will work with him unconditionally.
An interesting fact is that Ciiro is the most popular politician in north and south Somalia. People view Ciiro as a force for good, not like former sl leaders who habitually insult other Somalis.
I will say it here and now........
Ciiro will one day lead a united north and south Somalia......as the first ever iidoor Somali president inshallah.
Ustaad, as much as we all wish to see our qaldaamin brethren coming out
( metaphorically speaking, of course) from the scorching heat of division and into the refreshing breezy air of reunified skinnstan, I think your immoderate enthusiasm may have somewhat impaired your judgement, for you to boldly predict the impending resuscitation of the long defunct north/south union.
The pernicious secessionist doctrine is so ingrained in the collective psyche of successive qaldaamin generations, that it will take a lot more than a single faarax, i.e., cirro, to turn the clock back.

OD ironically the only way a majority of Somalilander voters would POSSIBLY choose reunification over independence is if both Darod groups in the east fully returned to the Somaliland fold beforehand

In principle we can agree Dhulbahante and Warsangeli are part of northern Somalia.
In any new North- South power sharing agreement with Mogadishu we would only accept if a new northern constitution is written where the eastern portion of northern Somalia is giving full confederation status with the western part of sl.
Coiro is a pragmatic politician. I'm sure he will examine every option.

in any hypothetical union this country would act like a de facto confederation of two republics that are based on the pre 1960 colonial borders. each republic somaliland and somalia can be internally decentralised further so that the 13 regions of somalia and the 5 regions of somaliland including sool can have a degree of self rule
the union would resemble the EU even though our Somali union would in theory be recognised internationally as a single country
each of the two republics would resemble Germany
each region within Somaliland or Somalia would resemble the 16 states within Germany

I'm not 100% in agreement with your proposal.
However, it has the potential to be the base for political talks.
Ciiro hasn't been in office 5mins and we're already seeing the fruits of his policies.

Cirro swore the same book. Who ever comes follow the rules, the highest authority in somaliland are the peaple. Not the leaders.
