The dance you're referring to is the Ciyaar Ceerigaabo. You see alotta men twisting, then stomping together at the same time, that dance is the best dance in Somalia!.

Mad Dog

The Abgaal dance is the Kabeebey, which is really nice too!.

Lady Qac

I've went to a Gadabuursi wedding before, and the ladies were singing this following song:

Si'aay Si'aay, Si'aay Samaroon!.

Did you hear that before?.

mataan don't act like ur somali cultural guide #1 Laughing

i'm pretty sure x was talkin about the Batar which is also a male warsangali/dhullo dance. my mom's grand ma taught her how to do the dance even though its for guys and she knows it really good. it's good as hell.

dont know wat u were talkin about in the Abgaal but i'm sure it was the SUROWGA CADALE which is my favorite somali of all. our neighbors in xamar would have nights where they did surow on the streets and everybody in neighborhood would come out to watch. i personally loved watchin this.

FOR MEN, i think the best somali ciyaar to do is the RER mudug SHAMAL. the funny thing is its a mudug dance but only the Darod rer mudugs dance it. it's counterpart is the Dhaanto and the hawiye Shirib.

Mad dog, I think Mataan is right.. I dont think All warsans/dhulos do this dance.. I've only seen people in the ceerigaabo Area do it @ aroosyo and stuff. Also, the description Mataan gave of the dance is quite accurate.

Waryaa mataan, so do the Isaaqs do this too or what? Laughing

Yes, the fuccin Isaaqs in Ceerigaabo do the dance with us!. Laughing But you know, we introduced that shitt to them!. Laughing

That dance is GREAT, and it takes alot of coordination, agility, and team work!. People surround the dancers, and start clapping slowly. The dancers in the middle go around in circles using hop steps, while a designated singer sings some traditional reer miyi song. The man stops singing, and all hell breaks loose!. The clapping intensifies, and the men start to spin very fast on one leg, with the other leg off the ground at a 45 degree angle.

Some men just spin, but there are others ( this one is my favorite ) who would lift their right leg up and spin 180 degrees, ( some 360 degrees, depending on how agile they are ) to stomp on the ground, and then would immediately lift their left leg up and spin 180, 360 the other direction in amazing speeds!. They continue to do this process for about 30 seconds, till the clapping intensifies to a maximum level, and the climax is reached by one final big clap, while the dancers stomp on the ground very hard for one final time, coordinating their final stomp with the final clap to produce one final deafening sound!!.

Now, keep in mind that all the men are wearing Macawis. None of the dancers wears pants, because the Macawis makes the dance look better!.

In my humble opinion, that dance is the best dance in the world!!. DAMN I LOVE IT!!. I gotta learn it to perfection inshaa Allaah, but there is one slight problem!. I'm not known for my agility, and by the time I'm done with one spin, the reer miyi dudes would have already performed about 5 "spins"!. Ama look like I'm on slow motion while the other dudes are on fast forward!.

Mike

I have a video Tape of some dudes in Ceerigaabo doing this dance, and there's even this big booty Xaliimo who joins them at the end of the dance!. Laughing But me being the computer illiterate I am, I don't know how to put it on the net!.

Mad Dog

Your Dhulbahante Grandmother grew up in the Hawd/South Togdheer area, and they don't perform this dance. This dance is widely known as Ciyaar Ceerigaabo, and it's practised from Ceerigaabo to Xudun in north Sool.

Have you ever hear of the Kabeebey dance?. It's a beatiful dance practised by the Abgaals I think.

Qac

Yes, I've seen them do the Saylici dance, But I mostly liked that Baraanbur song, "Si'aay Si'aay, Si'aay Samaroon"!, which the ladies danced to. Laughing

See if you could ask your relatives about the Si'aay Samaroon song and dance.

This brings back memories walee. Mataan Isaaqs invented the dance

Ciyaar Ceerigaabaawi is the best Very Happy the one I know best is when groups of men, mostly three to four men, they move forward together while doing the sacabka(clapping hands) they reach a certain point and they trun 360 degrees and stomp hard, this intensifies as the dance goes on, sometimes women stand on the other side. Only one woman or girl jumps in with garbasaar over her head, she does sacabka, some women make it look like they washing something with the way they move their hands, they move their feet together and they jump at the end. This ciyaar is how alot of our parents met Very Happy

Gudabiirsi have this dance called Sayliciga ama Saylaci they sing"Bismilaahi, Salalaahu, Calaa Hooyaale, Bismilaahi, Salalaahu Calaa Hooyaal"

Hooyo walo 4x
Walee nin heliin halowyeey 2x

So Ciyaar Ceerigaabo it is! Thats what I was talking about, the way you guys described it... Thats what I saw last summer. Man, what I would give to learn that dance Laughing Laughing Laughing

Its weird because they dont get dizzy or anything. Macawistuna kama dhacdo Laughing Laughing Laughing

In the one I saw, two men would spin with one leg up and stomp on the starting point. And it would intensify with time.. It was amazing.

The Sanaag traditional dance is called SHIRIB. The Men first hold their knees high up and spin while clubbing their hands and then jump high all night long. I have seen it on a tape too.

We have similarities but the traditional dances differ according to regions.

^^So shirib = Ciyaar Ceerigaabo?

Sounds similar.
