Did you consider the fact ppl have far more pressing issues at hand than prison conditions... what u have to understand is human rights, decent and humane treatment of social misfits are often transcended by issues partaining to life and death, education, employment, adequate housing, clean drinking water etc...

^^Why man? You don't Like Siyad Barre.
He said I was threat to his stability and put me in Jail for 4 months. What the hell does 12 yrs old kid knows about POLITICS. There was this kid who was 8, his nick name was XAAJI GAYDH...walaahi he didn't even owned long pants, only shorts and he was held in prison for 4 months.
This is how sad things were. One day I saw this guy with SNM initials on his forearm and asked what those initial stands for. You know what he said to me "I don't know SOMALI NATIONAL MONOPILY I think he said". That was the name of the Somali Cigarette Company. That is how young most of us were. We didn't even know the meaning of SNM let alone Somali politics.
As far as Hargeisa Jail goes, this is how it goes down.
The rooms are not equipped with toilets (it was the way British built). You are expected to finish your business before lock down at night. Incase you can't hold it, there is something called BACAYN (BAGGING). You hold a plastic bag to your asz area and defecate on it than seal it tight so can you throw it out in the morning. THERE IS A PLACE FOR URITING.
The prison has hierarchy based on social and economical classes. Some rooms are cleaner than others and some people are more discipline than others.
