How did I miss this topic?

Somalilight, genuine admiration for a name as you rightfully mentioned has nothing to do with tribalism. I like somali names that are free from foreign influences.

Maxamed Faarah Caydid was a somali general who was the military leader of the USC which succeeded where the SNM, SDM, SSDF and other liberation movements failed; that is freed somalis from the powerful hold of a blood thirsty dictator. Now, I am not happy at the way things have fared- nor was I a supporter of Caydid. When almost every somali (except may be die hard relatives of Afweyne) were praising him, I was condemning him.

He is going down in history as one of the greatest somali ever bore! Now, this might be debatable given the current situation- but out of hardship success will come. It was Caydid who made sure people reclaimed their rights. Now, don't read or listen to the opinions of those who think caydid was a murderer. The only thing they know is that their positions as slave masters came to an end- a bitter end.

Seriously, I see caydid as a consequence rather than the cause of our situation. A diagnosis instead of the disease. The disease/cause is Afweyne.

Why do I have this nickname? It has nothing to do with General Caydid- but it is the semantic meaning of the word CAYDID that means something to me: someone who hates to be abused Laughing

Caydiid,

You should seriously consider a creer in politics or marketting sxb, because ur really a smooth talker Laughing Laughing .

In a very small number of paragraphs, you skillfully praised, defended, and distanced yourself from the man. From my experience not many of the forumers here have that talent.

Faarax Taajir, LOL

I am the first person to condemn caydid (Actually I did that in 1992 when the US led forces went to somalia). But, since growing up and analysing the somali issue from different perspectives, I conclude that he was a consequence- and not the cause. Caydid would go down in the history books as the person who succeeded where many failed. He was the man who brought a new dawn to somalia- a new dawn in the sense of the word since he spared many somalis the apparatus of a fascist regime. I am for accountability. We should first scrutinise the causes of our problems, then the consequences. In that manner We should start with Siyad Barre, his croonies and his extended hands- then Abdullahi Yusuf , then Caydid, Ali Mahdi, Yalaxow and the small potatoes.
