"I would have joined the American army too if I didn't think it was morally wrong to do so. They kept sending these brochures explaining opportunities and what I could learn during the service. Very tempting opportunities and fun."
You are smart to not have joined, otherwise you would have become a property of the US military, an expandable property since most of those who perish are poor whites, Mexicans after green card and immigrants.
"I would sign up for the Airforce"
The Chairforce has changed; it's now standard policy that they learn combat and take part of it. So, no branch of the US military is safe, unless you're the son of an important official, in which case you get an office job.

I guess I wasn't clear. I never stopped wanting to be a soldier. I had other options. I'm a university graduate. For me there was never a question. And it was also never a calling that centered on morals or policy. I could care less what government I am serving. They pay me, I fight, it's that simple.

Very few Air Force personnel end up in ground combat. It happens, but it's rare.

Avowedly,
Let me tell you that I made the decision to read the Quran on my own and I can say that is when my life changed. I am a rational logical person but the Quran drew me and convinced me that this was the truth from my Lord. I am perfectly content in Islam as it puts every aspect of existence into perspective.
You, on the other hand are telling me: "Hey Gedo_Boy, leave your religion and come join uncertainty with me!".
At least pretend you can answer the large questions of life

And there is nothing wrong with this. Just understand you can't PROVE Islam is the right path and understand (which I know you do) that others have the right to believe other things and have lifestyles that are in contravention to Islamic lifestyle.
