I hear ya. But I would've at least responded in Somali to be civil, especially seeing as the Hindu's and Paki's do. At my work they ALways speak Urdu to each other, rest of the place be damned.

what I dont get. pakistanis for example have resided in the west longer than us,(somalis) some 5th generation, yet they have their deen and culture language intact, same could be said for the arabs , yet somalis, we just got here 5 minutes ago, and look at us. we have the most unique culture out there, yet we want to replace it with westeren bullsh!t and 50 cent and emulating video hoes
i went to an employment agency yesterday and there i found a somali girl working there. i did not bother in speaking somali to her or asking her if she was somali so she would not take offence(some people do). i just asked her if she had job openings. to my surprise she responded to me in somali and introduced herself to me. i was really shocked cos i never expect that from somali girls.....most of the ones i meet are white wannabes and i avoid them as much as i can.

Preserving the Somali culture or any culture starts at home. Sadly, a large percentage of our population are out of touch with their children. The children/young people are left alone to fend for themselves, there is little or no communication between the parents and the children. Without proper training at home, the children pick up on other cultures or habits, that is why you see kids emulating black people in most Somali neighborhoods.
If their fathers had spent more time with them teaching them about their country, their religion and culture, those kids would have had a different life experience growing up.
Another issue is that Somali parents make the mistake of raising families in god-forsaken run-down places a.k.a. project homes who are largely inhabited by the lowest of the low. People you would normally either see on TV or meet on the street. The Somali kids grow up having gangsters as neighbors and even teachers, teaching them tricks of the trait. Then you end up with Somali kids who suffer from major identity crisis.
indians and pakistanis have a strong culture that places a lot of value on education and self dependency. our culture is weak in many ways. we are focking nomads for gods sake, how can we adapt to these foriegn cultures so soon yet keep our own.
Our own Somali language has been diluted so much to the point that our heritage and cultural values are in the risk of becoming extinct.
This is not an accident that we just woke up to it, but it has been the interest of many Arab countries to force the issue of Arabism into the Somali people by way of adulterating and raping our language, so much so it got to the point that it could be replaced with Arabic language today.
Just a a year ago any warlord in Somalia was trying to run for office and many for the presidency chair these days, or so it seems at least. A new breed of non-nationalists, unpatriotic, uneducated, mostly criminals,(you know who iam talking about) who committed crimes against their own people, are running for the highest office in government, presidency. They are fighting over on how many seats each one gets for his tribe, clan, or maybe "GILIB".
When I think about it, which is very often, I usually picture a horrifying scene where a group of hungry, gargoyled humans attacking a weak but attractive and beautiful lady, the nation, and each one is grapping and pulling as many pieces of bones and flesh, internal organs and all, head or tail, while others are charging to have the whole torso (presidency) for themselves, for their clan, of course. Nowhere in that long shopping list that each warlord has could you see or read anything to do with rebuilding a nation, a Somali Nation. Each one thinks it is someone else's responsibility, the rest of the world, for that matter, to deal with the question of rebuilding the nation.
Qaarxiye Somalis are nomads treu but I think it has more to do with one's upbringin caanu nuug pointed everything out partly blame the parents indeed!
Every mooryaan & murderer in Somalia has a father & a mother, Somalis unlike blacks do not produce garac children. Every community starts with a man & a woman; that is why Allah (swt) created Hawa as a companion and a wife for Nabi Adam (as).
Somali parents have largely failed the Somali people & culture. If every mooryaan spent time with his father attending juma'a prayers rather than wondering the streets of Xamar aimlessly and hanging out with thugs & koolo-dhuuq/ciyaal suuq, Somalia would have been a different place.
Let me tell you of a personal story: My father met a childhood friend of his whom he hasn't seen for decades recently. My father's friend said that he'd shown up with 9 kids in Canada in the early 90s, he left Canada for the U.S. with only 3 young boys, he does not know/does not wish to know the fate of the others. Why? Because as he said it "Anigana duurka baan galay iyagana duurkooda bey dhinacooda ka galeen."
Sad, isn't it? Parents who bring their children to a non-Muslim country will be held accountable for doing so on qiyaamaha because the Prophet (saw) said do not migrate to darul-kufr.

i visited the county the other day to bail out a dude jailed for driving without an inspection sticker on his car. when i got there i couldn't believe what i saw. so many somali dudes were in the country and the city i live does has a somali population less than 2000 individuals.
somali parents are busy running tribal websites instead of raising their kids properly.
Disgusting walaahi the state Somalis in qurbaha live in. I see families packing & running to places like Maine because of welfare, thats what happens when you're ignorant.

somalis teens nowadays push narcotics for drug dealers. just the other two kids got busted on the greyhound bus carrying 5 kilos of cocaine in duffle bags. the cops have been following these guys for ages.
personally i find that offensive, very offensive. If i am a succesful somali woman I would also like to show that I speak somali and proudly state that i am Somali and love my language.
and if at work I see somalis i speak to them in somali and nothing else.
actually it becomes better to speak in a language not known at work, so i can finally be free from the rigidness of the job.
