Applying for a work is not a a good reason to do something haram. Just pray salaatul istikhara and when you go to an interview if there's a member of opposite sex interviewing you, when he/she gives you a hand just smile and say that you are a muslim and it's forbidden to touch someone from another sex not related to you. if you don't get that job say alhamdulillah and insha Allah you'll find something much better and there's also reward for you.
Getting a job is something that Allah has written for you. There was this bangladeshi brother who went to an interview with a full beard and khamiis. Interviewer told him that in our company usually employees wear suits and they shave their beards. Brother told him that he dresses like this because he likes to follow sunna. Then interviewer said something negative again and this brother told him that do you really think you can give me this job or refuse me? It's only Allah who gives me this or then something else. Then this interviewer asked his boss to come there and after some talking this bangladeshi man got the job.
I also know a convert who's working in field of security and he never shakes woman's hand in business meetings and every day he wears sunna clothing with a big beard. Actually he's very liked in his firm and colleagues are interested about Islam because of him.
I really don't understand why someone is shamed of his/her religion trying to please kuffar? If you have tawakkal and sabr and you follow your religion Allah will honour you.

Maybe so. But when someone says to me "I don't shake hands because I am a Muslim" that says to me:
a. Either they are saying "Fock your society and it's norms".
b. I am a fundamentalist type who will make no effort to blend.
Now, in a short process, like a job interview, you only have a few minutes to make an impression. Good or bad. If I went to a Muslim-owned firm in Egypt and it was during Ramadan and I was munching on a snack mid-day and the interviewer came out, he might accept that I am a kufr and therefore not subject to fasting. But he still probably wouldn't like that I was eating in public. I might be the most qualified candidate for the job, but he would still expect me to fit into social norms of the society. That's not unreasonable. Personally, most Muslims I know don't have a problem shaking hands with the opposite sex. Therefore, when you make an issue of it, you communicating something negative to the person you want something positive from. Even if the boss doesn't much care, he (or she) is probably saying "This guy is trouble. Next thing you know we hire him and he's going to start making demands on account of his religion and create conflict in the office."
Assimilation is key to success wherever you go. I am moving to Thailand. I can do an excellent immitation of a Bhudist when it suits my purposes. I have learned to wai properly. You know, social dos and don'ts. Muslims aren't going to get a free pass anymore than the rest of us. So when in Rome, do as the Romans.

[quote="biko"][quote="Samatr"]If shaking hands with women is xaraam, I got a lot of repenting to do.

Their hands are not the only thing I touch when I meet the opposite sex, but shaking hands being xaraam is a serious blow to my ajar.
