Might not be a myth actually, the same Queen Gudit of Damot who sacked Axum may have also seized Axum's eastern territories (Somaliland, Djibouti, Afar region and Harar). As she is recorded to have ruled the coast for over 40 years during the 10th century. This corresponds to the start of Islam in Somalia and after her reign Muslim states started cropping up around Damot.

If that myth is true, this actually fills an interesting hole in the historical record. With this myth we have a new chronology:

628 AD: Axum rules an empire of tributary states from the Ethiopian Highlands, provides sanctuary to Muhammed
896 AD: Sultanate of Shewa established at Walalah
950 AD: Axum disintegrates into civil war

1. You are exaggerating the extent of Axum.
Axum never reached as far south as harar and harar itself was founded in the 800's probably by muslim refugees fleeing persecution in Axum.
The extreme similiarity of the clothing the vocabulary and cultural practices of the Harari people and the Jaberti muslims of Eritrea and Tigray points ot this .
Axum never had control over the regions of shewa and Damot(you guessed right Damot was of the sidamo people)
Axum however did have control over the northern coasts for a brief period between AD 560 and 600
When the Persian navy destroyed the Axumites and re-established Persian Sasanid control over Yemen and Aden.


2.About the clans you should take them with a pinch of salt, but yes all the somali clans today even the oldest can be traced no further than 600AD.

You guys have probably forgotten they tried this in Northern Iraq (Kurdistan)...it is all about securing their refuelling stop on their planned air bombardment of Iran. Israel closer than Somali to Iran. They are not there to win hearts of any one either. Not behind every thing conspiracy theories. Israel wants to be part of the world who give. Same as other Western, Japanesse, China. If their way doing that to get some intrests why not?
