Assalaamu Alaikum,

Did any of you actually read the News Letter? Do you agree that we need constitutional reforms, rather than trading parties at the helm of power? What's your thoughts and please if you have nothing constructive to say, don't bother.

Assalaamu Alaikum,

gurey25, you've been yelling but as the article said for some odd reason the political movers and shakers in Somaliland do not want to change the constitution, they want to keep it as it is. For instance, the 3 political parties don't want any more parties to contest the local elections in order to determine the 3 national parties that will contest the presidential and parliamentary elections. Since the constitution is ambiguous when it comes to whether the contesting of the local elections by any party was a one time event like in 2002 or it is something that should be repeated to be able to inject new life into the political system every 5 years. As it stands, it looks like the current three national parties to some degree or another want to be the only ones to be able to contest elections. Furthermore, every one of them is more concerned about becoming the next president or having a majority in the local council and parliament. Each one would not want to curtail the vast amounts of executive power that came with the constitution that was tailored for the late Egal (AUN).
