KA,
The Palestinians have not done the one necessary thing, and that is recognize Israel's right to exist.

Why should they accept Israel's illegal occupation? Israel has no right to exist.Grant wrote:KA,

There. Point and mate.
I understand this morning that the one already arrested killer of the three Israeli teens has confessed he got money for the operation from Hamas. If true, I think that justifies a lot. There are still two killers on the loose and the rocket supply in Gaza for Israel to contend with.
The Palestinians have again not won this one. After the condemnations of Israel's methods will come the condemnation of Hamas' goals. There will be no Palestinian freedom until there is a surrender and a permanent treaty. The only way out I see is for you and them to recognize Israel's legitimacy. Short of that, this goes on and on.

"Palestinian children arrested by (Israeli) military and police are systematically subject to degrading treatment, and often to acts of torture, are interrogated in Hebrew, a language they did not understand, and sign confessions in Hebrew in order to be released," it said in a report.
Palestinian children arrested by [Israeli] military and police are systematically subject to degrading treatment, and often to acts of torture, are interrogated in Hebrew, a language they did not understand, and sign confessions in Hebrew in order to be released," the report said.
Children are fitted with leg chains and shackles to appear before military courts, and are often held in solitary confinement. The committee blames Israel’s “long-standing occupation” of Palestinian territory for the “severe and continuous violations of the rights of Palestinian children and their families." Many Palestinian children are denied birth certificates, health care and education, as well as basic needs such as clean water.
"Torture and other ill-treatment
Palestinian detainees reported being tortured and otherwise ill-treated during interrogation by the Israel Security Agency (ISA), including being subjected to painful shackling or binding of the limbs, immobilization in stress positions, sleep deprivation, threats and verbal abuse. Detainees were denied access to lawyers while under interrogation for days and occasionally weeks. Detainees on prolonged hunger strikes were repeatedly denied access to independent doctors and ill-treated by Israel Prison Service (IPS) staff. The authorities failed to independently investigate allegations of torture of detainees by the ISA, fuelling a climate of impunity. Investigations were the responsibility of the Interrogee Complaints Comptroller, an ISA employee, despite a November 2010 decision by the Attorney General to place the Comptroller under the Ministry of Justice. A law exempting the Israeli police and ISA from recording interrogations of “security” detainees, almost all of whom are Palestinian, was extended, helping to perpetuate impunity for torture and other ill-treatment. Despite the filing of more than 700 complaints relating to 2001-2012, only one criminal investigation had been opened by the end of 2012.

Historically Canada has not been an unfair actor in the Israel/Palestine dispute, Harper is an aberrationMurax wrote:James Dahl wrote:It's ridiculous to even be discussing Israel's "right to exist", Israel's existence isn't under threat, Palestine however is under existential threat.
James Dahl,
Why Has the Canadian Gov also been so unfair in their policy to the occupied territories? Their stance has been disappointing.

Re: Why doesn't Israel just annex the Palestinian Territorie
Fah,
Murax suggested that we end this tit for tat and give it a rest. In view of the ceasefire and negotiations, it was an acceptable idea to me.
I do not deny the Israelis treat the Palestinians badly. I can't really excuse it, but I can understand how it has happened in what has come to seem like an interminable state of occupation and war. The impunity on both sides does not speak well for either side.
As long as we are trading "illegalities" (This is war, after all.), check out this little tidbit:
http://www.algemeiner.com/2014/08/05/ho ... ideo-cat-3
The UN should be protecting the Palestinian civilians...
"'But instead the UN is playing right into the hands of Hamas, by sheltering civilians right next to Hamas fighters, Hamas weapons and Hamas tunnels. Then the United Nations and the international community accuses Israel of doing precisely what Hamas intended Israel to do: namely fire at its terrorists and kill United Nations protected civilians in the process. It’s a cynical game being played by Hamas, but it wouldn’t succeed without the complicity of UN agencies."

Re: Why doesn't Israel just annex the Palestinian Territorie
Yeah, sure. FYI: as of 5 AM ET today Hamas had fired 33 rockets into Israel. This after negotiations in Egypt that could have brought an extension to the ceasefire, or even peace. The Israeli goal in Gaza is now said to be the disarmament of Hamas, so that portion of your statement may come to pass. Any massacre in Gaza will only come as a result of Hamas' pre-planning and use of civilians for defense of their military.

Is this a chicken and egg sequence? Tit for tat goes nowhere. Somewhere this has got to end....
