If I remember correctly, you were brought up in an Arab country. I forget which.

My experience has been, from childhood through to adolescence, sticking to the deen is near-fraking-impossible. This is coming from a person whose mother focused more on religion, rather than culture. From what I've seen, I can only predict that the majority of the 3rd generation Somali diaspora will be screwed, deen-wise.

I am Somali-Canadian. My kids, if any, will be Canadian. Deen wise, I hope the best for them. If they're mixed? Lol, they'll likely have zero connection to any identity besides that of Canada, if not the deen. I hope the best for them.

Alpha, feminist discourses aside, the reer baadiyo women are the best. They are not that demanding; they are part of a bigger social network and they are not as materialistic as the diaspora women. They will safeguard you manhood; there will hardly be any conflict.
Furthermore, you are the man not a thing as in the diaspora.

Salool, waxaa ka daran kuwa dibada joogo; they view men as sperm donators. They are very superficial; they will milk men dry and when they have kids they assume that they stand alot to gain if they divorce him; the man is a hostage; they castrate him mentally and in the best case scenario you become her slave. In the worst of cases, you end up losing your dignity.

Greenday, Temptations are best ofset through marriage...

Wow, it's great to have a personal interpreter. Yes alpha, she pretty much summed up what I was saying

Alpha, from my own experience men in the diaspora are nothing more than sperm banks. Once you have donated you become graveyard brand  Child benefit, endless nacnac and if you are unlucky you end being accused of rape, abuse etc.
While you are married, you endure constant abuse such as being asked to fetch a spoon of salt from the neighbours, going to endless parties to collect her... you become an object.

I've always assumed that reer baadiyo women expect emotionally vacant men. Who will do little other than scold kids for stepping out of line, marry their daughters off, and bring in the bread.

Everything else must be suppressed at all costs.

This may the experience with women who've been raised back home, but that isn't what I expect of the women who've been raised here. I expect the "I got my degree, career, money, and car" girl, who requires nothing other than bi-annual sperm donations, totally a count of 3. Lol, marriage is dead.

Women
 As I told you earlier, if I were to marry a woman in the diaspora, I will go for qudbosirees; by doing this, I will keep my apartment and my dignity.

Alternatively, I will go for a gumeeys.

Alpha, no, no, all diaspora women are the same! Those who are born in the diaspora are the worst; they live in a world of ferry tales. and when the going gets tough they get disappointed.

I want an intelligent, witty, sarcastic and confident girl, who'd be willing to engage in conversations on a wide range of topics, who won't be afraid show her fears and insecurities, and accept my own.

But I'm convinced Somalis are dead inside.

Lol, this is the other half of those who've been raised here. They've been fed too many Disney and romcom movies. I'm certain it's split between what I've said, and these lol.

There is hope Alpha, I'm looking at the bright side. No pessimism please  And actually moving to the West has pressured me to learn the deen more as growing up in a Muslim country you take it for granted, the challenges are less, everyone's the same as you etc. so I was not as forced to learn more than I knew and I did not appreciate what I had as much as now. Weird I know.

If your Mum could do it, then why can't you? I see a lot of youth who are practicing the deen , sure it will be difficult for most and it is now, but still.

Zeliha, it's an honour

LamaG, did you just say there is no woman who deserves a man... :o

I seriously need to get my Karbaash Gear on  Somebody press the emergency button...

All diaspora women are gold diggers walaal. They claim that they are in love but they are in love with your wallet and sperm... They will do everything to capture you with fancy words and what they see on movies. Once, you are captured you are a hostage.

It rather unsual for a reer badiye marriage to end in divorce. In most cases, polygamy solves the probelms.

Saraxnow, that was in response to an earlier assertion. In my opinion, there are a few somali women in the diaspora who are honest; hence, they do not deserve a good somali husband... They need a toy
