My experience has been, from childhood through to adolescence, sticking to the deen is near-fraking-impossible. This is coming from a person whose mother focused more on religion, rather than culture. From what I've seen, I can only predict that the majority of the 3rd generation Somali diaspora will be screwed, deen-wise.
I am Somali-Canadian. My kids, if any, will be Canadian. Deen wise, I hope the best for them. If they're mixed? Lol, they'll likely have zero connection to any identity besides that of Canada, if not the deen. I hope the best for them.
