Lol @ Gedo Girl.

GG, the problem for us is when we "group identify". If you see yourself as an individual and take ownership over your representation in the public sphere, then a guy like this in the video wouldn't register in your frame of reference. I actually though the video was comedy.

looool that so true! This comes from being at the same school as so many other Muslims. If a Moroccan acted out of place, the whole lot would beat him and the same with Bangladeshis and Somalis. I was brought up thinking that every Somali was somehow my problem. I cant laugh because I know that he is mentally ill. There is another one in Soho, a Jamaican or Nigerian I'm not sure and he does the exact same thing with feather boa's and high sparkly heels. I've watched him for hours at the coffee shop and he doesnt go with men or anything. Its not for money or even attention. He will go back to his hospital and then be back out again dressed in something weirder.

So what there are Somalis who make up part of the human wreckage of the west.
We`ve left the collectivist/ tribal society and moved to an individualistic society.

Somalis need to stop worrying about nonsense like this, and live your lives as you see fit . :D

What's Soho btw? I am assuming it is your version of our Capitol Hill?
Capitol Hill is the most densely populated residential[citation needed] district in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is the center of the city's gay and counterculture communities, and is one of the city's most prominent nightlife and entertainment districts.

Yeah, that experience may explain why someone would care so much. It is not even about the Somali issue, but generally I am a very strongly individual minded person and I hate to conform to anything that may be expected of me by being seen as belonging to any group. Besides, the educated part of me, looks at a person like that in the video and I just see a sad person crying out for help. Whenever people do outlandish stuff, unless they are serious sociopaths who derive pleasure from their eccentricity (in which case they still require help!), I always hypothesize those actions must be the symptoms of an underlying problem---either mental health problems, chemical dependency, dissassociative personality disorder, etc.

Truest post ever. Especially regarding the causes. I wish the rest could be true for me. As much as I'm an individual, Somalis are everywhere in London and they will try to force you to conform to their norms. Even if it means cussing you out in public for ignoring them/their advice. Its actually very trying. I miss the Somalis I remember when we first came to the country. So Muslim, so Somali but also very open minded and intelligent. I dont know where they disappeared to but this new lot creep me out.

Soho is the very posh yet seedy gay area. I dont know what Capitol Hill it sounds very similar from that entry except that there are few people who actually live there besides the people in homeless hostels. In Soho you will see a brothel downstairs from a clothes shop. Gay orientated shops and bars. All of Londons crack heads go there to steal and buy drugs. Celebrities hang out there and so do all the social misfits. Very gay, rainbows everywhere and its open later than most areas. As its a very busy area, lots of non white gay people see it as a safe haven because they can be really gay but there is very little chance anyone will spot you there. If they do you can always say you were out shopping or visiting the other attractions nearby. Its also great for people watching when you cant sleep. I once saw a Somali duleel selling women in a brothel near Berwick Street. He didnt even care that I saw him and I just laughed that he would probably do the same job back home except he'd be selling hotel rooms or something lol

Pardon the pun, but your Somalis seem to be really f'cked up. I think there are some similarities between Somalis of course, but I think the American system advances the idea of a "melting pot" (serious integration) instead of your "multi-cultural" (separate but equal?) so the Somalis here for the most part most adapt considerably to how Americans live. To be honest, unless the Somalis is a FOB, there isn't an outward effort to force to become a "Somali type." Then again I don't hang out with Somalis a lot and when I do, they seem very Americanized. I have never experienced any Somali trying to condition me to speak, think, or act like them. But damn Somalis in London seem to be really f'cked up!

Is making generalizations like this a Somali tendency?

If your philosophical outlook points to causation then you have legitimacy to enquire as to the causes of such linkage but you do so while generalizing ironically enough. If, however, you are noticing a correlation derived from an observation of multiple people from a similar ethnic background then I suppose you may just be perplexed?

In any case, it was not a serious comment, but a rhetorical bait for intriguing response. Don't be silly again.

It is multi-culturalism. Britain was an empire for so long so when that all ended they were very serious about not being seen as racists in the new era. As a consequence of that attitude, everyone in London lives in ethnic ghettos that they think they own. Its a shambles. I dont mean that people should assimilate to the point of extinction or lose connection with their roots either which would be very damaging. I have noticed that most American Somalis are different. They are still Somali, proud of their heritage but they arent as hypocritical regarding their citizenship. They seem proud of being both. In the UK you will see people who dont mind the passport but hate the whole country and I dont get it considering how much easier it is to be a Muslim in the UK than really anywhere else in Europe.

gedo_gurl wrote:^^This is the second wind of people who came after settling in Holland, Denmark etc. British Somalis are not like that generally. But its not a secret that the Sikhs and other Asian groups hate Somalis. We took over 'their' areas of London and they dont like it. We even buy clothes, haircare ect from each other now and they hate it. The only way to beat them is to continue expanding businesses. Let them talk about our drunks but we know who go goes around routinely raping white children all over this country. I would also like to add that Asians are the largest group of gay Muslims in Britain. They are also the ones who kill their own family members like they're still in their countryside. Add to these facts the fact they also drink to the point of idiocy and that they commit the same crimes as Somalis do but on a much larger scale. People in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.
 This summer was the first time I've spent some time in London and I've noticed the above to be a tendency of many Brit Somalis. You like to scapegoat the Euro Somalis for all your larger societal issues, it's laughable, because its obviously not true. In fact as an outsider it appears clear that there is little distinction between the "two winds" of Somalis in the UK 8-)
