how would you rate tonight's episode? At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, I can honestly say that it was by far THE BEST one I've seen thus far. Could Hurley be the next Jacob?

Skippa this episode is as timeless as Richard himself. No wonder they kept this from us for six long yrs. I really felt for Richard cause he sentenced himself for eternity without Isabella. Just when we thought it was Desmond who is the unfortunate one for spending three years on the island without Penelope. Maybe Sawyer without Kate or Jin without Sun. Richard the centenarian is the show, he is Lost.

It was really good to finally find out how in the world The Black Rock got to the middle of the island as well as what happened to the statue. It turns out the Black Rock took out the statue back in 1867 . Which also means that when Sawyer, Juliet, Miles, Jin and Danial Faraday were jumping through time every a few minutes... at one point they were at a time where the statue was standing still. They actually traveled to the island before Richard even set a foot on it. I find that pretty awesome.

Last night's episode was beyond awesome. Perhaps, the best since the days of Eko. Though lots of questions have been answered, each episode spurs more theories. The notion that the island is either purgatory or hell had been posed early on and there are several occurences or incidents that back up this theory. I want to remind you that christian hell is somewhat different than our idea of hell, which is basically fire thought there's an exception like Zamhariir which is made of ice. I kept thinking may be they are being punished by re-living their past, seeing people from their past that they have wronged, and getting off the island is the same as being redeemed? What do you think?

I wonder what Jacob offered Ricardo to be his representative? And why he chose to live without his Isabella?
I was sooooooooooooooooooo annoyed when Jacob didn't answer the question Richard posed regarding his lack of involvement in people's fates. Could hae said free will? Richard said the devil intervenes.
What if Jacob is really not the good guy? What if he is really the devil? Any1 else share this concern?lol..Fun, fun, fun episode!

Was it me or was there a philosphical undertone in the whole conversation between Richard and Jacob.

Jacob being good trying to contain the Devil, While the Devil just wishing to spread mischief in the land and corrupt everyone and anyone, buts how did they get on the Island and why do they turn into smoke?

From a couple of seasons ago talking about electro magnetic theories and huge energy pockets that could destroy the world, to now a devil to corrupt our souls.

Jacob wants to prove the goodness of every soul (jesus) so he sacrificed himself by believeing in ben up to the last second. He also wants everyone to choose to be good (free-will), So I beg to ask the question is Jacob going to be reincarnated? or is someone else going to take his place. And why did the devil need a new body (John locke), and in this new body is he more invincible than before, since he couldn't be killed by Said, but jacob could be killed. And before Whittmore wanted the island for commercial reasons, but now hes here to kill Locke (devil) did jacob give him a mission?

The show is taking a twist from science to religon, but seems to be connected together.

Sayiid died and then came back to life, WHATS UP WITH THAT, not same situation as locke

also i think hugo will fill in Jacobs position since he was the only one to find the OLD house, he has a thing with numbers, and he lead the people to the Temple

Another wicked episode. I did say a long time ago that I thought Richard came as a slave on the black rock. But Gatspy got jealous of me discovering another Lost riddle, so he used hes powers of persuasion to get one of the mods to delete my comment and thus he could claim it as hes own. SMH.

Though, back to the episode...one of the big shocks of the Richard flashback (which im sure that most of the people in this topic were also gawping at): Who knew than a non-receding hairline Richard aka Mr I sound so... ...when I speak Espanyol Ricardo with his ruggid long hair could look so hot.

Now two questions remain: 1) How to stop locke/the devil? 2) Which candidate will succeed Jacob as the island's guardian or whatever the heck his real job is on the island?

Sawyer attempted to kill the fake Locke but that didn't work. Why was it so easy to kill Jacob and not the devil? What happened to the man in black? In his original form? I mean the jig is up and every1 knows the real Locke is dead so why does he continue to remain in his form? I can't think of any other reason besides the producers wanting to keep Terry O'quinn on the payroll, which i don't mind at all since he's an amazing actor.

About my second question, it seems ghost Jacob might be favoring Hurley at this point but will it be Jack who gets the job in the end?

LionHeart.. Jacob didn't offer anything to Richard. Richard asked for immorality after Jacob told him that he couldn't perform his other requests. Richard first asked for Isabella's resurrection, then asked for all his sins to be forgiven and then he settled for immortality. We thought that Jacob might not be the good guy, but I don't think he is the devil just because he hasn't done anything that can push him over that thin line. Jacob said the man in black believes that everyone can be corrupted cause its in everyone's genes. Which makes the man in black non other than Shaydaan. After hearing Richard speak, there actually might be a chance that they are indeed dead and in hell. The alternate reality is the results of them redeeming themselves because they all actually died even before the Hydrogen bomb.

1) How to stop locke/the devil? Well the only way to stop him from leaving is one of the candidates taking the job fast. Although he seems to be prepared for that.
2) Which candidate will succeed Jacob as the island's guardian? It has to be one of our living candidates. Keep in mind that Ben is still a candidate and only one of the Kwons is a candidate. I got my money on Ben
3) What happened to the man in black? In his original form? Smokie is just the MiB, original form or Locke's body. He told Richard that Jacob took his body. So he has no choice but to take other forms, and back in 1867 he just had a body he probably took from one of Jacob's candidates. Like Alana told us he is stuck with this body for a while, i'm guessing that he can only use a certain number of bodies in a certain period of time.
4) Why was it so easy to kill Jacob? Perfect Order answered this one. Jacob is believed that everyone can always choose good over evil. He died for what he believed in

Gatspy...Good lord, i have missed a lot. Thanks for the recap. I remember the negotiations between Jacob and Richard. Jacob couldn't grant him return of his wife or absolving of his sins. But i just found it funny that he'd want to live forever rather dying in order to be with Isabella??? This part puzzled me.

Also, I thought Jacob debunked the notion that they are in fact dead and in hell when he was drowning him?? The effect of the hydrogen don't really change Richard's reality as he landed on the island looooooooooong before hydrogen bombs were invented. This event would only change his futureand meeting with the passengers who crashed on the as a result of the "incident" caused by Chan's team and the electromagnetic pull created by Desmond's forgetfullness.

I wonder who was made up of the "others" before the Dharma Initiative? Remember the indigenous people the scientists of the DI had a peace deal with? Who were they? And how were brought to the island? Other victims of Jacob and MIB's experiments? Any thoughts?

I missed the part about the MIB's losing his form? When and how did this happen? Did he always need to occupy the shape of a human being, which would probably mean Jacob is also in some1's form?
