It's important for Somalia's future, and Ethiopia's future that occupation of Somalia is defeated. The regime of Meles must fall.
Gedo-boy,
You are a wise person... And I agree with you walaahay...Unless the qabiil thinking is freed from our minds..We are blind to the reality..During Haile Mingistu's last moments he gave a long speech to the Ethiopians and on his speech he said" One of the greatest victories that I have achieved is to divide and encourage our enemy(Somalia) to create different fronts and armed each one of them to their theeth...Dadkiisa ayuu ugu abaal sheeganayey GUUSHA uu soo hooyey...
After the fall of Siyad Barre of all these 17 yrs the Habasha was pouring weapons to Somalia...All the warlords were getting their weapons from the Habasha......And today...we can all see what is happening...
Why don't we once and for all be Somalis rather than Hawiya, Daarood, Isaaq, Digil etc
Oh yeah. The course of Somali history changed the day the USSR decided to back Ethiopia over Barre. The beginning of the end. Now Ethiopia is in Somalia by invitation, and it's gonna take a sustained effort to drive them out.
Mike,
This can be said differently.
Somali history changed the day Barre joined the Russian Cold War camp and kicked the US out of his country. It changed further when the Derg came to power in Ethiopia and Russia changed sides. It changed again when a pro-western government replaced the Derg.
The Ethiopian flag flies over an embassy in Hamar. This in itself is de jure recognition of Somali sovereignty. The operative word in your post is "invitation". My expectation is that a recognizable election followed by the seating of an effective central Somali government will see them gone. I can't imagine the US, UN, AU or the Arab League supporting anything else.

GedoBoy,
There is a critical difference on opposing the UIC and supporting the Ethiopian invasion.
I on principle opposed the UIC and wanted them stopped. These focks were dangerous and refused to practice peaceful diplomacy with those who chose not to follow. I was willing to accept that they took Xamar but opposed their expansion to Galmudug.
Regarding Maxamed Siyaad and his vision. He was the Godfather of the collapse of Somalia. If he had done the honorable thing and quit in 1978 after losing the war to Ethiopia, he would have left as an honorable Statesman. He instead chose to cling to power and crushed all dissent in Somalia even the peaceful groups like Manifesto. His maniacal rule at all costs with not regard to the nation was what sowed the seeds for a bitter civil war and collapse.
You can not say he was a nationalistic leader when he had men like former Prime Minister Abdullahi Isse (his nephew) who help found the Somali Republic jailed for several years even though it was Abdullahi Isse who ensured that Mohamed Siyaad was not deposed from his position as suggested by PM Igaal.
