People like Owen Hargeaves who are born a bred in Canada choose to play for England. Why? Because they obviously have a football program worth playing for. While the avg canadian doesn't even know who Pele is.

Those Holland players went to Holland because they were a colony of Holland. They go there because they are in abject poverty and playing for the Oranje is more economical then playing for Suriname.

In Hargreaves case I agree wit ur assessment but in terms of other players from Suriname poverty had nothing to do wit it.

Kluivert was born in Ajax in some inner city establishment, and his autobiography stated that football was his only way out which suggests that some parts of Europe suffer tha same social and economic hardships as some inner cities in America.

The notion that Caribbean people live in poverty and are fully dependent on western nations is absurd to say tha least. Holland just created a better football climate for some of those surinamese players.

There are 100's of thousands of Surinames people in Holland. More then 10 percent of Suriname

The Caribbean Football Union had soccer tournaments in tha 50's 60' and 70's and Suriname always produced top class players. They share tha same language and culture wit Holland since they were colonised by the dutch. Its not strange that some Surinamese moved to Holland.

Suriname was an overseas dutch department the same way that Martinique and Guadeloupe are to France.

Ummmnnn. Suriname is part of Caribbean although geographically there located on the northern part of the South American Continent. Even Guyana is located on the South American continent but they're considered caribbean too.

If you've been to Suriname, you'd understand that what I'm talking about. And oh yeah, they play alot of football there too. There's current CFU club tournaments with Surinamese football clubs which proves ur logic is flawed.
