To the maker of the thread. The people after siyaad barre dont deserve the title "president" as they didn't have any influnce sa a leader. they just carried the name.

If anyone is to be named it has to be Gen. Caydiid(AUN) who did have a decent influence and managed to set up the only election to happen in Mogadishu since 91.

This is a common fallacy which was created to legitimize the coup and was nurtured during the 21 years of Barre's rule.

The first Somali republic although plagued in its late years by corruption, nepotism and clannism..had accomplished equal things like Barre's regime considering the very brief period it ruled.

Also, is it coincidence that the first 8 years of Barre's regime witnessed alot of development while later on nothing happened and all aid went into private pockets?

No, because the regime was enjoying the economic windfall which was created by the policies of the first government of 1960-69. After 70, the fruits of the pre-69 development programs was claimed by the military regime as things the ''Kacaan'' achieved.

Also, without the military development done by the first civilian government, the whole coup would not be possible! The first civilian government developed the SNA, received countless weapons and military aid from a wide ranging countries...including Soviet Union while the government did not degenarate itself into a client-state like the military government did.

Lastly, the very men in the first civilian government, men like Abdirasaq Xaji Xusen, Adden Abdullahi Osman, Abdullahi Ciise etc, were the prime actors within the SYL that fought for Somali independence and propagated the idea of Pan-Somalia at the UN.

As for the topic: Somali state seized to exist on 26 Jan 1991. Since then, we had only dejure ''governments'' So, in fact Somalia only knows 3 presidents.

after that we only had illiterate uneducated military men as leaders (siyaad, yusuf, ceydiid)

Berberawi,

Darood and Hawiye are always hold president position while Isaaq and other saab clans were holding prime minister position .... this is the way it was from 1960s untill 1990 sorry .....

What evidence do you have that he was warlord?

He was a elader of a jabhad. he succesfully over threw a dictator and succesfully secured the first and only election to take place in the capitol or somali for that mater since 91.

He deserves Presidency. but unfortunately . once your ana enemy of USA your not going to reach far.

warlords are tose who fight over strip in mogadishu and those who fought like clan turf expansionist.

Read any us about caydiid (AUN).. before.. their fight with him ..he was reffered to as leaer of USC after 93 he became a crazy warlord.

If you mean somaliland .... it is just region in Somali Republic.. it is like Puntland, Jubbaland, Shabeelleland, Bandirland, Hiraanland, Galmudugland and others.... LONG LIVE SOMALIWEYN !!!
