Twisted
I don't no what Bad Galks is just heard of it now.
I never heard of Geledi or Wacdaan saying that the origins are for making harvest better either, just heard that from people who learned about the istun in 70's and 80's not the ones who've been doing it for centuries.
Is your sub clan of Abgaal the ones who lived in Xamar or are you guys a little farthe up. Who are the Abgaal who were in Xamar first.
Do u have any Geledi family members.
2 of my cousins are Wacbhoudan and 1 is Waceysle, more are comin insha'allah
My abti is also married to an Abgaal lady.
Now that I think of it their are hella Geledi people who are married to Abgaal.

We are supposed to be the ones who are big into these things. I always wanted to know it, but i find it corney to go to grown-ups and bother them with such petty questions. anyways, the Reer Matan were the first Abgaal to settle in Xamar.

Istun is part of Dabshidka, an old pre-Islamic practice people thought that by doing would make their harvests better that year.
This is a shirk and all Somali religious leaders have spoken out about it. Shirib do you still defend it?
We need to keep and preserve our culture Bro. Screw the Arabs. Lets have our own culture and if possible our own religion 8)
Ba'aa
Hey xan ma fiicno, so I will tell you, when I first seen your facebook I said to my brother inanka waa atheist, he laughed and said he is just being complex. But this just proves my point. Walaal, Islam is not an arab religion. Islam is a religion for those who wish to life in a happy life here and the hereafter. Do not judge islam by individuals and cultural practices, but judge the religion by what it preaches. If you can point out the flaws of the Islamic religion that would be great, we can have a dialogue, and eventually come to an understanding and inshallah you can come back to the correct path.
Come on man! Just because Luq said, “Sadeboi waa in cimmamad iyo khamis loo soo xirro” doesn’t mean you take him serious and preach to others!lol

Twisted,
Seriously though. A lot of times Somalis in their frusturations with Arabs will take a hostile view towards the Religion saying its 'Arab culture'. If anything we're giving the Arabs TOO much credit to leave parts of the Religion for them which is wrong. Arabs don't have anymore rights to the Religion than we do sxb.

I understand where you are coming from but try telling that to King Abdullah of Suadi Arabia and Mrs. Osama Bin Laden! and our own in-house bred Ceyro and Abu Mansur who have to start every line with "God Bless MRs.Osama Bin Laden'!

Twisted Logic,
Some of those men are their own sect called "Takfir" or "Khawarij", and King Cabdallah is just a faasiq. To take what they say for face value of what the Religion is is extremely dangerous as it could delude us. This is why its important for all of us to learn the Religion to we don't get brainwashed or turned off form the deen by these misguided folks

Re: Shirib: ISTUNKA AFGOYE
Voltage.
Like I said I never heard a Geledi person or Wacdaan one say anything about its origins being to make the harvest better it was just outsiders saying it. Anyways i did some research and have some facts about the istun.
The Istun IS NOT apart of DABSHID, it just happens to happen around the same time. The Istun does not PRE-DATE ISLAM.
The Geledi came to settle in Shabelle Hoose in the 1200's. Before that they lived in Gedo and Gasaaso (now apart of Ethiopia Ogaden region). They were Muslim when they moved to Shabelle hoose. While in Gedo they had many wars with gaalo madoow of the area. They had the wars with the gaalo madow even after they moved to Shabelle hoose though on a lesser scale.
The Istun did not become a tradition until the Geledi's defeat of Silcis. Silcis were not defeated until the late 1400's early 1500's, and by that time everyone was Muslim.
Dabshid was something that the people on the coast practiced before Islam but the Geledi weren't there before Islam and did not practice it, and the Istun wasn't apart of the Dabshid.

Walaal, I am not preaching to you, this is a forum, we discuss issues and share our opinions. I just wanted to indulge in a dialogue with you so we can come to understand our different views and exchange some wisdom. But if you do not wish to do so its ok by me.

Re: Shirib: ISTUNKA AFGOYE
Me and my SAB brother (shrib) have discussed about this and as a result we will be building a NEW Eelaay site not all for the SAB people (digil and mirifle) but also for these Af maxaatiri speaking monkeys who have shown great interest in our history, language and etc...

I will need to get back to you on this. I was strictly informed Istun is part of Dabshidka which is Jahiliya practice in the south where people believe they will get better harvest for the year.
