For 2 years I was working front desk at a apartment building. The area was Crystal City in Arlington VA, right outside of DC. This was one of the more upscale places in the area and for a two bedroom it cost you 2,600-3000 a month depending on the season. The apartments were nice though and they were the kind of apartments you'd see on MTV Cribs, loool. Either way though in VA for a 1 bedroom you're looking at anywhere from 1000-1400 depending on the location, qualtiy of the apartment and so forth.
I think that has alot to do wit the proximity to DC more than anything else. My parents still live in DC and the taxes and cost of living are alot higher in DC than it is in Virginia or Maryland.
Virginia state tax is like what 8% and DC is like 13%

Baller,
I don't know how anybody can live in DC nowadays. The only people that live there in large numbers are those AU, GW, GT etc. students who live on campus, and the fagz who took over the whole Dupont circle area, and are even taking over Northwest. Most people either moved to MD, or Northern VA, which I think is the best bet anyway. I live in Northern VA and take the metro to DC basically and it only takes me 20 min. Are your Parents renting or do they own it? If they own it, they might want to get rid of it and cash out with the ballpark and all the other stuff going on for maximum profit. If there renting who knows they probably just really like the city, lool.

Luq,
Its people that have money that can live in the more prestigious parts of DC. Its always been expensive to live there. The cost of living has always been high even though you and I know there are some really rotten parts. The city has undergone alot of redevelopment over the last 10 years or so. I don't live there now but I visit my parents fairly often.
My parents own their home, but I doubt they will cash out. They're retired and have been living in DC for like an eternity.
One of my brothers live in PG County, Maryland and that area has also gone under redevelopment over the last 8 years. The key was to buy a home in the early to mid 90's which he did before today's soaring housing costs. He bought 3 homes.
The thing wit DC is the quality of life is rich and so is the standard of living if you can afford it. I don't blame you for living in VA. The cost of living will be cheaper. Everything in DC is inflated. But believe me....give it another decade and you will see places like Silversprings, Forestville, Landover, Bowie, Bladensburg, Laurel, with very high soaring housing costs. That is due again to its proximity and closeness to DC.
The only thing I love about DC is the Metro.
If you ever get tired of VA, lemme know. I'll advise you on where you can buy a decent house in GHA(Greater Houston area) for just under 100K

Re: Rent In Your Area......
Baller,
Actually areas like SE, NE especially the Anachostia River area around the Park are being totally remodeled and there booming with new businesses etc. I've had a friend who went to that area a while back and he was shocked at the new development. You're right though about places like PG, Laurel etc. becoming the new DC with the housing rates. I've seen the same thing happen with Woodbridge/Dale City down south on 95. It was hot, and now people are either moving deeper into MD, or farther and farther south towards Richmond. Infact I've seen people from as far away as Calvert County and as away as Spottsolvania County 20 min from Richmond. Things are getting outta control, loool. I guess your Parents just love in in DC.
Btw whats up with the PG county cops? These motherfockers are dangerous, lool.

Luugh, every state in America has a place like Crystal City. The rich need a place to chill where poor (violent, thieving) people can not afford to live. lol

Re: Rent In Your Area......
you are all so lucky that you dont live in a boomtown brimming with inflation.
When i first arrived in dubai, i had a 1 bedroom flat in the centre of town, the poch part
and paid about $500 a month in rent.
when my lease was over the owner wanted to move in so i had to go,
moved to sharjah to save money( downgrade my lifestyle) got a 2 bedroom apt for $1000
now i hear that a 1 bedroom flat today in my old nieghbourhood is $3000

loooooooooool...Dude that is the best area to live and I'd love to live there one time if I can afford it. Its a Urban area but Suburban in that the crime rate is 0.00000001, lol...
You don't need a car ever in that enviroment. Everything you need is right there in walking distance, and in the summer its awsome.

Luq,
Its all about economics finance and wealth. You and I know that what they've done in DC is gone into SE/SW where the majority of poor blacks and minorities live and driven alot of them out of the area by redevelopment causing them to run to neighbouring MD/VA.
The poor blacks there cannot afford it because what those developers have done is bought out those areas designating it as "prime" location. When they (developers) do that they can stimulate and generate huge profits. Its really sad because now they are forcing blacks and other small minorities further and further into Maryland and VA to find more affordable state housing.
"Btw whats up with the PG county cops? These motherfockers are dangerous,"
They're terrible but can ya blame 'em? I mean DC cops are just as bad if not worse. Blacks in DC hate cops wit a passion. Doesn't matter if ur white, balck, hispanic, native they will kill you.

Fah,
Had your parents bought that house in 1993/94 prior to the first Clinton Administration, that house would've been worth approx about 150-175K max. My brother bought his first house not far from Silversprings and that's what they were going for at the time. That same house today is worth an astronomical amount of money.
The thing is my brother bought his house wit money my parents gave him at the time.
"So much redevelopment is going on near my house and they blowin' up old factories and stuff, they are building a road that links Laurel to Gaithersburg"
And wit all that redevelopment will come new subdivisions along wit smaller housing sq footage wit soaring prices. The housing market is very strong there and will continue although forclosures are up.
I'm quite happy where I am right now.
