"I'm talking about an inferiority complex as a race. That is, do Somalis believe that Caucasians are inherently better than them?"

So what Blacks do you know that think Whites are inherently superior to them as a race? In what ways to they express this sense of racial inferiority? You see, superficial things like appearance isn't just about "feminine personal insecurities", they are good clues to power struggles and ethnic self-perception.

Naturally, I didn't grow up in a household in which whites were considered to be racially superior. Like you, I grew up in a household in which Arabs and Arab identity was considered to be superior to being a black African. We derived a sense of pride from having an Arab forefather, looked down on certain Somalis for being "jareer", etc. It's true you don't see many Somali women dyeing their hair blonde, but then again there are few Arabs with blonde hair.

It's not always about Caucasians indeed.

I think its more of a fashion statement than anything else. It has nothing to do wit inferiority complexes.

Oh I see where you're going with this!

All this just to go back to the fabled Somali Arab complex, and the to launch your attack at Somali's attachment to Islam.
Somalis are just as derogatory to Arabs as they are to Caucasians or anyone else. You should hear the stories my Yemeni friends will tell about the Somalis.
Don't they have derogatory terms for even the Arabs in Somalia? "basal cuno" "gaabow" "boodio yare"

P.S - I once talked to a Lebanese-Canadian young guy from Ottawa. He was telling me how much he admired the Somalis esp. the women b/c of their strong culture & sense of identity. He even told me that before the Somalis most Muslim were even afraid to wear their hijab or jilbabs.

You can accuse Somalis of many things, but not that they have inferiority complexes or that they by and large pander to other groups.

GB, Malaysians are non-Arab Muslims who don't have the complex we do. It's not about attacking Islam or Arabs, you really should try to grow up and not jump to conclusions.

If your Lebanese friends admires Somalis he's not like some Arabs who look on all Africans as slave stock. But being the nouveau wadaad you are I'm sure this aspect of human nature will be completely invisible to you.

PS - I understand some Blacks refer to Caucasians as 'crackers'. That must prove they don't have an inferiority complex either. Phew.

Cawr,

Few care who you regard as slave or as a master, you are minority and most of somali minorities have a deep resentment to things they were excluded from even been considered a proper somali, and the class nobility of Nomads as opposed to the culturally debased peasents. Even the nationalistic symbol of somalia was of nomadic image, the fat udder she-camel Maandeeq not a vertile feild of maze where cow's dung was the major use,be it a house, or be it the fule.

I have never seen you exposing your father side instead you always seem to identify with your Daarood mother and her clan, thats enough to indicate how much you regard your father's ethincity, soothig your ego by regading somalis as slaves would not amend your self esteem for the simple reason of negating your father's side and replacing it with your proper somali mother's side.

Parmatic,

"Black Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt" the title insinuate that there were some white Pharahos in anceint Egypt or Egypt was predominantly was white and hence some were blacks?

Its a histroical fact of all the 31 Egyptian dynasties only the Hyskos (Semtics) Greecs (Europeans) and Persians were the only non-native non African dynasties , the title should have been... those the odd once not the mainstream.

In a simple way if i stated " European Kings in the Americas" I have already made those the exception and not the rule thus indirectly meaning to say the rest were non-Europeans. You have to be very carefull quoting the Classist establishements who preach the euro-centric superamcy.

Xp,

You just oppose things for the sake of I dont know...oppose maybe?? and thats amost about everything
It has nothing to do with darod, hawiye or even isaq is it??

Lemme go out of topic like you did...for once..so who told you that my father is a minority?? you would be surprised..stop assuming
Just because I chose not to identify my qabil doesnt mean I am or am not darod..but onething is for sure..I aint Isaq and I aint Hawiye.

Obviously you are here to pick a fight 24/7 and that says alot abt your character..nough said.

PragmaticGal,

You are coming across as self-hating. Somalis were not slaves nor have they been slaves so who gives a damn what the Arabs would think or say. They are irrelevant.
If the Chinese were to consider the Europeans as slave stock do you think it would bother them one bit? They wouldn't care. It's only the people with inferiority complexes who care how they are allegedly perceived.

This is what white officers in Somalia were saying at the height of the British Empire. I'm bringing factual documented assessments of the psychology of the Somalis by the Europeans and you are bringing far fetched deductions of the psychology of a race by the use of feminine products to prove there is a complex. Even when I showed you the white analogue of lightening creams you discount it as not really being an inferiority complex when it in fact is the same.

This particular officer was also in other parts of Africa so he is an observer providing an objective account. How much clearer is it than:

"They have no inferiority complexes, no wide-eyed worship of the white man's ways..."

--------

....You get into that way of thinking in the Somali waste. You think that way because the Somalis bitterly resent the white man, and struggle continually, and admirably, by lies and intrigue, to fight off his influence which spells the end of their peculiar world. You cannot beat them. They have no inferiority complexes, no wide-eyed worship of the white man's ways, and no fear of him, of his guns or of his official anger. They are a race to be admired, if hard to love."

"A Somali always felt himself to be twice as good as any white man, or any other kind of man at all, and still does, even when he is wrong. Islam does wonders for the self respect of non-white people and Christianity is right to worry about the spread of Islam in Africa, and must honestly face the question of why it has happened - "

"Of all the desiccated, bitter, cruel, sunbeaten wildernesses which starve and thirst beyond the edges of Africa's luscious, jungled centre, there cannot be one more Christless than the one which begins at the northern foot of Mount Kenya and stretches to the foothills of Abyssinia, and from there to the dried-out glittering tip of Cape Gardafui where the hot karif winds blow in from where the long sharks race under the thin blue skin of the ocean. You can never think of those wildernesses without thinking of daggers and spears, rolling fierce eyes under mops of dusty black crinkly hair, of mad stubborn camels, rocks too hot to touch, and blood feuds whose origins cannot be remembered, only honoured in the stabbing. But of all the races of Africa there cannot be one better to live among than the most difficult, the proudest, the bravest, the vainest, the most merciless, the friendliest; the Somalis."
