I always thought that Garays and Guntiino were worn the same way. But the only difference was that Garays is the more highclass outfit.

Guntiino, to my understanding, is just one piece of cloth wraped around the body. Whereas Garays is a compenation of several cloths including: Boqorka, Dhaclaha, Subeeciyada and Garayska.

An example of Garays: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6_XoS5bxC0
An example of Guntiino: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEpw-X7Bbuk&feature=user

Compare what the two and you know the difference.

I wore guntiino once at my cousins "shaash saar" and I was paranoid the whole night about it, whether it was going slip open etc.. terrible thing to wear I must say...

No difference between Guntiino and Garays...Not at all..What changes in time is the fabric that is used for it that is all...and some times how low the knot is tied on the your back....

Guntiino is a very elegant dress for anyone who has the body for it..But if you have not the body for it forget about it...It is the Diric that covers someones' shortcomings...I guess that is why most fat women like to wear Diric!

Also it depends how religious one is...The guntino will show more curves than the Diric...But the Diric can be a see through too...So many things to consider here...

Xplaya,
There are a couple of way they wrapped it around the body. But the main thing is that, it is composed of only one piece of cloth.

Whereas Garays is as I said composed of a number of different things which is then called "Garays". These things include: Boqorka, Dhaclaha, Subeeciyada, and Garayska. All of these play important role in a Garays-dress.

Garays has always been regarded as the "top class" traditional outfit.

Fale,

Exactly...Hadda saddex qaydka ay sidato Faadumo Qaasim iyo midka ay naagta kale sidato Amina miyaa la dhaahaa what is the difference?

Mid walba waa maro garraar loo xidho...

As a matter of fact markii dambbe it was the material that they used to refer as Garays...Always imported from Kenya a colourful kind..
