Zulaika, what do u do? My oppinion is, that if they are happy with the career let them do it. I am studying to be a Doctor/surgeon. I am not doing it for the money but for love, love of my people and my country. If people are happy doing Pol/sci and it benefits their country, i say let them.
Re: somali university students and political science
They must be lucky to get those high paying jobs because from what i know in my family is that: the avr pay for a nurse is $17.50 an hour, while others make about 12.

What do you do for a living? Also, these Somali students you are talking about, do they go to York?

Re: somali university students and political science
Most people who study Political Science/Internatinal Relations/Sociology etc. go on to law school, Zulaika.
People who study Biology/Chemistry/etc. go on to medical school.
Biology degrees are just as useless as Political science degrees unless you go to post-graduate schools.

Just like any discipline there are those that make high salaries, many that don't. Hence, there are those that make "under $37,300" a year in nursing. The US is much better than Canada, and Canada is better than those in Europe in particular the UK.

Re: somali university students and political science
Sulaika
Staff RN
10th% 25th% 75th% 90th%
$42,647 $48,358 $60,296 $65,455
LPN
10th% - 25th% - 75th% - 90th%
$30,214 $33,560 $43,046 $45,517
90 percentile being the high end which equates to number of years being on the job, that is hardly any pay.. and unfair if ya ask me..... these are numbers here in Atlanta.... unless you are highly educated and specialized type of nurse like Certified Nurse Anesthetist or equivalent, which pays much higher... the vast pay scale of a nurse is mediocre
I think it is highly unfair, when I was being offered 80k on a campus recruiting gig walaahi 2 months before I graduated.....very unfair if ya ask me...they care for the sick mayn...and teachers teach our young...both salaries need to be over hauled, if ya ask me shawty

There is always the in thing to study. I remember when I was in High school, silence of the lamps came out and everyone wanted to study psychology.
