This convo between a Somali and an Eritrean show clearly why Somalia is so divided and weak, while Eritrea (with a fraction of Somalia's population, territory and resources) is so united and strong against Ethiopian agression.

The Somali person is confused, irrational and looks at the surface of things, in which emotions play the keytone. For example: to the Somali ''Habasha TPLF is the same as Habasha EPLF'' without even looking at the fundamental interests at play.

For example: The centuries old animosity between Abysinian expansionists and Somali nomads.

From here on, one can reason further and notice how the current TPLF foreign policy resembles those of Menelek, Haile Selassi and even Derg regime. A Policy of expansion into other man's lands, and the subjugation of the inhabitants, i.e Ogaden region and currently within the borders of the Somali Republic.

From there on, one searches for allies since the enemy is clear. As we can see, Eritrea is the arch-enemy of Ethiopia since the break-up of TPLF-EPLF honeymoon.

An underlying issue is that the Eritrean people have lived under centuries old occupation by the Abbysinian rulers, and fought 30 years for their independence. The only threat to their hard-won independence comes from the Ethiopian regime.

Hence, the Somali security interest and that of the Eritrean people is linked by destiny and common threat to their survival as an independent nation coming from a common enemy: Ethiopia.


Why is it hard for the stubborn, clannist, ignorant Somali nomad to grasp this strategic interest and deduct from that who can be an enemy and who can be an ally, without letting his emotions cloud his judgement?
