what do you think you will benefit from a somali woman's education. by the time she has her first walac, she will be sleeping for ever in your house until she dies. Sincerely speaking, somali woman's education is a liability to her husband in the west. af english xun oo broken ah hadii ay barato she will be like " This america. I fredom". sxb all that a somali woman
would do is to cook, clean the house and be there on the bed which any woman can do.

Here we go again... more misogynistic diatribe from our resident misogynist.

I'm going to break this down for you walaal, so read it carefully;

1. In Islam men and women are encouraged to seek knowledge.

2. Women are entitled to education.

3. Education is the key to the future.

4. Women are part of society, therefore they should be able to contribute to it.

5. During the time of the Prophet (saw) women were very much involved in the construction of society, ( medicine, scholarly knowledge, poetry etc).

6. For example, Aisha Bint Abubakar (ra) was a formidable scholar & transmitted countless sayings of Prophet Muhammad (saw). The Prophet's first wife & most beloved, Khadija bint Khuwaylid (ra) was a business woman of high calibre & the Prophet (saw) worked for her.

7. It's against the spirit of Islam to deny women the right to an education & just confine them within four walls.

8. A woman's education benefits her children, which in turn benefits society as a whole.

9. A woman is the first teacher to her child - she instills morals & values into the child from a young age.

10. How is an illiterate mother going to help her child read or help her child with his/her homework?

11. How will she be able to attend parent meetings, or be actively involved with the school board?

12. How will she inspire her child to reach her/his full potential when she has little or no education herself?

13. How will a woman with little/ or no religious knowledge help her child with the Deen or reading/ understanding the Qur'an?

14. A woman's first & most important role is as a mother & wife - but the more educated the woman is the more likely she'll be able to raise a stable & successful family.

15. Her education will benefit her even if she becomes a housewife because she'll pass on her knowledge to her offspring.

16. If you educate a man you educate one person; if you educate a woman you educate and liberate a nation". Al-Hajj Malik Al-Shabazz

Imagine if your kids come to you with their questions all the time when their mom can't answer them for linguistic inabilities? How would that make you feel about the future? Depends on your plan saxib. If you wish to live and raise kids in the west, a wife whose english skills shine makes a perfect mom with the combination of faith. You know the only means to learn the local languages are to go to school and study, you won't be around your wife all the time, you can die suddenly. To wait for your judgement peacefully in your grave, it is better to know you have left behind a wife equipped to meet the challenges. On the other hand, if you plan to raise your kids in Somalia, or in an Islamic country, best Knowledge she requires to have is religion. That is necessity these days. if she is trained and has skills which she can use to bring in some needed income to the family, such as working as a nurse, or having her own business, assuming she is not stup!d enough to think she has balls like yours overnight by virtue of making some money, you can live contented.

I happen to like your hardcore style though, believe me, women love men who don't take bs from them. Good for you bro

If a Somali women's education is a liability, what exactely is your education to pass such judgement on our xaliimos? What are your credentials in order for us to take you seriously?

Western education can never be compatible with Islamic tenets, it teachs women to compete with man and embrace feminist mentality.

I ask the men forumers who have replied to Hanad a simple question.

would you let your wife work as a professional in some western company, mixing with other men wearing western attire?

From a female prospective, I dont have to follow nor embrace the Westren culture to be successful in my profession. There are and have been many female Muslims who live in the west and raise families while working in such society. Now, I will agree with you that regardless of what level of education we have(that goes for male and female) it can never be compared to that is the thought by Islam. With that said, what I dont agree with the topic poster, for the simple fact, that he is advocating for illiteracy amongst women for his own insecurities. What he falls to understand is that his job as a father/husband would actually be more easier if he marries an eduacted woman and by that Islam education is included. I wish Somali men werent so narrow minded as to imprison their women from seeking knowledge and being an independant thinker. A society with uneducated mothers is a failed society and that is a proven fact. Catch up somali MEN.

Ismahan

do you know that more than 70% of self-employed Somalis in Somalia are women? Somali culture and society placed no restrictions on women in terms of their education and social status.

education (or atleast basic numeracy and literacy) is prerequisite to be self-employed or a business womanin Somalia.

it doesn'ttake einstein to figure that providing these self-employed women who are in most cases the sole bread winners of their family, quality no frills education is the best way of strengthening the economy while at the same time getting these very women to educate their children in the absence of schools.

I am not in agreement with Hanad's above generalisation of having misgivings about educating women period.

but I wanted to point out that western style education isn't 100% useful for our women as it targets them (more than men)with some doctrines that are designed to corrode our Islamic creed.

Jamal23, there's no such thing as western style of education.

Look at the curiculum of any uni or college and do you see there major subjects that hints western. Most universities have a Religious Studies Department. I took two classes as my Upper GE classes once.

Diversify your knowledge and let our women master their natural skills and have professional jobs.

Read Nuruddin Farah's novels if you want to feel and understand the perspective of the life of women in a backward culture like ours.
