No, it isn't. In the States, all pregnant women before 25 weeks are screened for genetic diseases through a diagnostic procedure called amniocentesis.

As for the topic question, Allahu Aclam! Many scholars cite several hadeeths which indicate that the practice of 'Azl i.e. coitus interruptus was widespread and the Prophet (saw) never said it was wrong to do or that it should be stopped. From these hadeeths, the scholars reach the conclusion that condoms are permitted along with other types of birth control.

since Islam prohibits abortion @ any stage of a pregnancy

Whats the use of those Genetic disease screening if you can't abort the foetus if its diagnosed with a genetic defect :?:

Salaam adeer! :D

I start this September, insha Allah. How are your studies going? When are you going to Al-Azhar? How's the family?

Jamaal,

You're correct sxb. these screenings are useless unless the woman wants to abort the babies.

There are times when abortion is the only solution to save the mother's life..so it isnt always prohibited.

As for the screening?? well for 1 thing you could know in advance what your child could be suffering
and that allows you to prepare for his/her upbringing..not to mention the psychological trauma one could suffer..so there is nothing wrong with the tests..

As for aborting these maldeformes fetuses..thats for the scholars to debate.
