It's different. Somalis and Oromos became divided along Religious lines, not ethnic ones, THAT is why Somalis are 100% Islamic. During my research I found the genealogical link between Oromos and Somalis.

The link is Qaldho, who has descendants in both Dir Samaale and Humbana Oromo subclans, and Akisho who has Oromo as well as Dir Samaale subclans.
Hiil, the ancestor to both Sabe and Samaale, appears to have been a Humbana Oromo.

Gabra and Rendille are claimed to be part of Qaldho Dir, but Boran are a different lineage.

If the link is not due to some other factor (such as assimilation of lineages) and Hiil is a descendant of Humbana, then there is a quite coherent link between Oromos and Somalis. A lot more research is necessary though to tie up the loose ends. I believe the Ram Nag mentioned as the ancestor of Samaale was read from a document in either Arabic or Ge'ez and lacked vowels, so it was written RM NG. I believe the RM is Oromo, and the NG is the now-forgotten ancestor of Oromo.

I do wonder why the Boran especially those I know from Kenya can differ from the Gabra and Rendiile. The Boran of Kenya speak a form of Oromo which is similar to Somali and can be understood by the Somali.

Borana and Barentuma were the two sons of Oromo, but Borana was the older brother. Same thing with Hawiye and Aji, Aji was the elder of the two.
