Its a sad state of affairs. The welfare system is a trap. Some believe they are getting ahead by being on the system but the total cost in the end is not worthwhile The worst case scenario is that your children become the victims of your illicit pursuit of "free money".

Folks used to laugh at me for not getting on the dole. Those same folks are still on the dole & have another generation coming up.

Islam encourages to be self-reliant. If you're capable of working, but live off begging (welfare is a form of begging), there will be a mark on your face in aakhiro. A lifestyle of living off welfare, cheating the system for more, continuing/insisting on it-- is a lifestyle that clashes with the teachings of Islam. There's no blessing in such a lifestyle. Those of you who know about this, do inform the brothers/sisters back home (or in nearby countries; Kenya, Yemen, etc) about it,and discourage them isbuufising about it.
