congrats, Cali Gaab, 24, 000 a month is not quite middle class income, but It will give you the experience to get future promotions. Make sure to look for promotions or even other jobs. Don't settle for less.
I have 35 Credits to go before I graduate. Fingers crossed
good job saxib. What did you do your degree in and what uni did you graduate from?
Town planning? what exactley does that entail? Councils and govt jobs in general are hot beds for decent working hours and also good quality of life. 24k is decent for a first graduate job, infact i started on 23,800 in sept 2007, increased with the more experience and more exams i pass, so alhamdulilah its all good. With no major outgoings than you should be able to save a bit of money inshallah.
Exact calculations of your earnings:
24k = 2k per month. out of the 2 k you'll be in the 22% tax and NI brackets, so your take home pay a month will be 1,560 (440 of which will be tax and NI). Assuming your working a 35hrs a week as per all council jobs than your net hourly wage will be 11.15 pounds per hr. You could easily live on 560 a month and save 1k, do that for a couple of yrs and you could have around 30k in savings, assuming your salary goes up.
Tax is a bitch, mos likely in your first couple of months you'll be under an emergency tax code, so u'll get taxed more, but will be able to claim back in april inshallah.
plenty of careers pay a greater starting salary such as teachin which is 25k plus a 5k tax free bonus after completing 1 year as a teacher. Also they get a crazy amount of holidays.
