Ok, How many buildings is your University? University of Minnesota is huge. It's about 1/3 of Minneapolis and consists a lot of buildings probably close 300 buildings, Look at this pic, the whole area you see is the University(Starting from the Mississippi river )

(by the way, I think this issue is urgent and needs to be addressed by skinnies who are fooled and have forgotten entirely what Somalia was like pre-1991)

FAH, this has nothing to do with my location or any particular location, and by the way, I am where I am because its the only school that accepted my application early.

This is not White-phobia in any way, I've been around Whiteys my entire life and I'd probably feel the same way if I was in rural Japan or Russia, its human condition. And the answer isn't simply going back to Somali though that is my goal at the end of my struggle here.

Gurey25 hit the nail on the head - its about alienation. Some of you disagree with my sentiments because you've been close to home (Somali community) all your lives and never truly experienced life outside of Somalia - just shut the f-ck up unless you've lived the true American life in the shoes of an extreme minority, away from the comforts of your bullet-ridden Somali ghettos like Dixon and Cedar-Riverside.

Man, I'd give up money, education, and Facebook to be comfortable. You guys simply don't know what its like to be here. I can only tolerate so much redneck garbage. I've tried to embrace it and I've tried to live it, but these sister-fockers are living in a time machine and they certainly don't live in the period that I'm living in. My biggest mistake was telling them I was easy-going, so they all like ranting to me about race and politics, as if I'd respect or agree with right-wing fanatics...imagine living around 100,000 Bill O'Reillys and hearing their shit every day!

One day, you'll all work or study far away from the comforts of your little ghettos and away from your weekly community gatherings and you will all fully accept that you are NOT home. I feel bad now because a Black friend I had last semester constantly ranted about race but I ignored him. I feel awful ignoring his warnings.

LASTLY! Somalia wasn't a f-cking shit hole. We had schools and we had a country with PAVED ROADS! We had it all. Don't sell Somalia short because you are too dumb to understand what it was.

I can see where you are coming from, but........

Your location does have something to do with your outlook my friend.

There are barely any Somalis here and I hang out with people from all walks of life.

Redneck America is not mainstream America

Shilkha...fah is telling the truth...more and more of Americans are moving fart east or west. The middle is being emptied and fully occupied by ignorant red-necks. I personally could not take it either. I do not associate with Somalis in my day-to-day life besides at home and sometime some gatherings, but everywhere else I feel like another American, more Black-American. When I'm in School, even if I am the only black kid, I do not feel any different. Your in a hellhole and you choose it dude, you can't understand fah and us because you lived in a very-Somali surrounding of MN and then a very white-neck place.

You guys just aren't understanding each other. You guys are all agreeing one way or another but you just don't see it.

Fah and Sade you guys are right that Shilka's surroundings is not reflective of greater or even mainstream American (hence why it is called small-town america) but then again he is right when he says you guys truly don't understand because both of you then go back to your parent's houses for the night.

I think what Paidmonk is saying is that home is where you belong fully not where you belong sometimes and in some places.

I think I completely get what he is saying and I live and go to school in one of the most liberal and open-minded areas in mainstream America!

Two days ago to be exact I was doing some individual work and some kids were talking about affirmative action and how its not fair or reverse discrimination or one thing.

Notice I was not part of their discussion nor knew them, but one of them this white kid in preppy clothes turns to me and says "so what do you think about affirmative action".

Why the fock would he ask me? Did I know the focker? Was I part of their discussion group?

I got so irritated I looked at him dead in the eyes and said in the most chill sardonic tone "yes, affirmative action comes up so you just have to get the opinion of the lone black guy nearby, how original" and this kid got so red in the face but I didn't really care because he had no right to ask me.

Now multiply that a 1000x and look at poor Shilka in the middle of redneck country. I feel real bad for the kid wallahi. He should just transfer.

But one thing I disagree with him on is that notion because he is not comfortable in the midst of rednecks that Somalia will be any more home. You should go on a visit this summer and find your own answer because I certainly don't see it more of a home than here.
