Anyway, back to the topic. Double D, you raised some good points, but I must correct you on one. Though the Americans were "Officially" fighting the NVA, it was the VC (Viet Cong) who inflicted the most damage. Like the mujahadiin, they were a largely civilian, guerilla force. "Ragtag" in a certain sense, but far from it when it came to battlefield tactics. They kicked ass. And just as quickly they would evaporate, and retreat into Cambodia, where the U.S was not permitted to go. That is, until Nixon took power, then they went in covertly.And yes the Yanks DID win SOME battles, but lost the war. But in Iraq, it's hard to tell who's winning what. Because unlike Vietnam, the media reporting is being surpressed. So we have no real idea who's winning what. Are the Americans really losing the battles but winning the war ? Or is it vice versa ? No one knows for sure.

I should've said the yanks won most of the big battles, and not every single battle.

I was pointing out that it is wrong to think Iraq conflict being comparable to Vietnam war. The VC had a leader and a goal that wasn't just hate for US but nationilistic will to get rid of foreign power. Iraq war to me is mostly foreigners and Iraq groups without a goal, a vision for future Iraq, driven only for their dislike of the US. If they win-not by defeating the US but US decision not to prolong a war of attrition- Iraq will plunge into civil war.

The Kurds who are almost a state will NEVER allow to be ruled by any arab again. Most of the Shias don't suppor this insurgent war. Its mostly Sunni arabs who don't like how they lost their undue influence and domination of Iraq.
