No degree is worthless or a waste of money. Some of the people obtaining the degrees (of any kind) may be worthless though but never the degree itself.

It is really awful when you see young people going to university ONLY to obtain a degree. A university is not about studying one subject and being cocooned in the faculty of engineering, chemistry or Arts. Going to University is much more than that. It is about meeting new people from different backgrounds, it is about mixing with students from other disciplines and faculties. It is about engaging in as many student activities as possible and broadening your own horizons. After all, it is not called a UNIVERSITY for nothing.

The way you are viewing it is typical of today’s students. To people like you, a University is some sort of conveyer belt that churns out graduates who are proficient in their subject matter but hardly understand a thing about other areas. It is a sad and very insular view to have.

You belittle Arts and History but forget that a vast majority of journalists, broadcasters and teachers have a first degree in these disciplines. Studying is not and has never been about the discipline itself but rather the study and confirmation that one has the aptitude and perseverance to complete a three (or four) year course.

If it were money you are after then why not become a Taxi driver and go for endless overtime? You will sure earn more than your average graduate does. Or how about skilled work? Experienced Plumbers make good money too. Why go through the hassle of University, essays, assignments, experiments, attendance, boring lectures and nail-biting exams if it’s only money you are after?

Furthermore, the vast majority of graduates either end up working in a field that has nothing to do with their preferred discipline or, if they do work in their area of choice, get paid peanuts! Not all graduates, you see, will manage to collar a job with the best organisation in their field of study. Countless accounting graduates are stuck in some back street Patel & Sons firm instead of being with KPMG. Thousands of lawyers are touting for accident victims instead of living the sexy life of an LA Law TV character (some don’t even make it and end up doing Paralegal work).

Open your eyes you narrow minded students. It is a big world out there and the opportunities are endless. Don’t limit yourselves in such a depressing way.

i can't be a jaajuus its way too wrong but I do like espionage games and ish...even though the money is great... i'll just get my post-grad degree and head that route

hyper, my mom said the same thing...but you need to get a masters degree to go into a specialization or go to Law School

I'm not going to Law School cause there are already way too many Lawyers and the cost is way too high for me.

business and pleasure dnt mix. i can work the same job for long period of time, i might extremely loathe the job, but its that paycheck at the end of the week that motivates me to get up everyday.

my willpower is extremely strong. some ppl just have weak mentalities

health related and law degrees are wast of time.

math degree and then go into business is the way to go.

Sports related degrees...and made up degrees like 'War Studies' or 'African-American Women Studies'.

A harvesting bull also does the same tedious task over and over again, and gets rewarded at the end of the day. It does not require a university degree.
