nobody hates the arabic language, thats just not on, the quran is written in arabic for crying out loud, but is the fact that we seem to care more about other languages than our own, for example i've seen somalis from the south who will deliberately speak Italian just to sound cool or northerners speak English becaue they think that will bring them closer to the Queen. (seen both cases in may own eyes) and all that time we pushing our children to learn a language that we not so proud of. why is that?

Honestly I really dont see why we should be too concerned, if we analyse the situation and use other peoples as an example then look at the 3rd or 4th generation Pakistanis. Most of their kids cannot speak a word of Urdu except hello and goodbye. This is because they have been bought up to believe English is the best language so yes its not a surprise that individuals amongst the Somalis would like to acto cool speaking English and sometimes are a bit embarrased of Somali. However from my experience once they pass their teens they usually develop an interest for Somali so InshAllah its fine. Somali language will never die out InshAllah. The best way to preserve Somali is to encourage Arabic, contrary to what people think, I know many people who improved their Somali whilst learnign Arabic :up:

Somali vocabulary really is 30% Arabic, Emperior isn't lying

Beydh = Egg

Calamka = world

xukumud = gov't

albaabka = door

ect, somalis say them too

I can read Somali, but I can't understand what I'm reading. My Somali socks period though...like really socks...like really really really socks. But atleast I can understand and not feel lost around Somalis.
