The SNM was founded on April 1981 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Now please enlighten the about the oppression and the perscution that people of somalia, specially the people of North somalia were suffereing from AT THE TIME (april 1981) that merited a violent rebellion...........................TAKE AS LONG AS U LIKE

p.s before you reply consider the fact that most of the top leadership in the SNM in the latter years were in fact goverment officials when the SNM was formed.
They wanted to liberate their land from mooryan government that wanted to rule in office permenantly, we joined the union and found out it was a mistake, however I dont think you would understand that as your clan were were part of MOD and were favoured.

sorry mate but SNM were not freedom fighters.............who freedom were they fighting for?
are you telling the isaaqs had less freedom than other other somalis under s barre's dictorship.

ps. yes they did suffer more than other somalis in the late 80s as result of the conflict ignited by the SNM, but they had no less freedom than other somalis in the early 1981 when the SNM was formed. which means they were largely responsible for the conflict and the resulting suffering.

mate siad barre did regularly hold elections, but he was always the only candidate on the ballot. i worship of siad barre is no different to these kids worshiping the traitorous SNM because the man undoubtly caused a lot suffering for the somali people under his brutally dictorship in latter years of his reign.

Thats exactly my point he was hard headed so when he already did the damage in hargeysa in 1988 only then did he realise his time was over so he thought let me have elections.
Sxb I accept that somalia was fine up until 1977, before then everything was fairly balanced but you have to understand that after we lost the war in 77 everybody was feeling dissapointed and by that time siad was in power for 18 years and obviously we thought that he was responsible for us losing in the war - he made somalia into a communist state and was betrayed by our allies. Of course the khat ban did make a difference but we felt that we made a mistake in joining the union and we saw the real corrupt government and what they were capable of after the snm was formed, lets just say the rest was history.
