If you're actually interested in discussing this topic and not simply expressing faux-indignation, his motivation is very important. If we understand what drew him to the boy, be it lack of supervision in conjunction with the man's own mental deficiencies we'll be able to prevent it from happening again.

I think you shouldn't remove the image just because someone can't handle it, but no need to be an asshole about it to her, even though she could have requested you to remove it with more class. The question you should be asking is 'does expressing a little indignation go far enough?' How will empty posturing help anybody, least of all the child? Whereas identifying why is was able to happen will be very beneficial.
