The issue of predestination in Islam is a big issue and as I understand it so far, when it said God has alreadywrote down your life before you are born this is because God is infinite and is able to see and judge what you will do before you are even born...hence you are still in command of your actions.

yes its a field we are asked not to dwell much in but if you look into it you will realise that ...your command of actions were created by Allah and they are part of predestinations and even though you have free will it will in no way escape what you were destined to do.
What we are encouraged is not abuse it by trying to procastinate actions or being lazy but we use it when a calamity has striken us and without the beleif in qadar our lives would be in tatters.
