Let us look S.Land and P.Land. Since 1991:
- Who has developed the infrastructure of these regions?
- Who have fed the people?
- Who have built the schools?
- Who
- Who
I ask you what have the governments in these two regions done for any somali?
Ans: Nothing
Infact S.Land and P.Land without any external treats could have done 10 times better then they have if they didnt have their respective governments.

Somalia is full with illiterates ninyahow. Somalis that you see in the cities and villages is just one side of Somalia.
There's a whole nother Somalia in the bushes with their camels. The people you hear about when a dude says, war mid reer baadiya ah baan faraskaan ka soo gatay etc.
Those people can't read nor write, no nothing man.

THere is only so much PL and SL can do. There will be a point or they are at a point where they are at the limit of what they can ultimately do as an entity without a federal government backing it...
you also have to account that Somalis don't produce anything thru industry on a large scale (even though there a few factories and what not)
The north is better than it was twenty years ago but the south is just too focked beyond repair

Screw these lame ass emotional topics.

I would be bothered by the unconscious feeling of guilt too if I were you.
Actually, the irony is that the same people that glorify the man that single handedly led Somalia to this path of turmoil and social anarchy are now the same people lamenting about the demise of the Somali nation. You can't have your cake and eat it too.
There is no one party that can be blamed for what happened in 91. Everyone played their part in that catastrophe, including all the feuding tribes and the president.

Qabiil can't be rid of in Somalia because while it's economically rational for the Somali people as a whole to substitute nationalism for tribalism, it isn't particularly rational for any Somali individual to do so.
A Somali individual has a choice between:
-Giving up qabiil and substituting it for nationalism. This means ignoring all the obligations your clan/tribe has already placed upon you and treating all Somalis the same AND hoping that people of other clans reciprocate that behavior and that your own clan/tribe does get too sour at you for ignoring the obligations they perceive you owe to them.
OR:
-Accept the status quo. Stick to clan/tribe mentality. Your clan offers protection. Why give that up for a "nationalism" that might never even take off?
Which choice would a rational person who found himself born as a Somali make?

In order for Somali nationalism to take off, the ratio of nationalist to qabiilist must be something like 1 to 10. For every ten qabiilists, there must be at least be 1 nationalist.
Of course it could be that a nationalist for every twenty qaabilists could work too -- the point is, a far lesser number of nationalists are needed to bring Somalia back from the brink. The whole Somali population need not change its mentality -- just a substantial part, say, 15%. If 15% of Somalis could be made to genuinely care about their country and became raging nationalists, they could carry on their shoulders everyone else who is only concerned with qabiil. The differing clans will always remain divided but nationalists from various clans could work together. The differing clans who can't stand each other could nonetheless be brought together in a web of economic activity managed by the nationalists and, of course, with the time, even the qabiilists will lose their tribal fervor and nationalism could sweep the whole country.
Are any of you would be somali-nationalists willing to do the hard work it takes to build that sense of nationalism among Somalis? Are you willing to, say, publicly shame and humiliate anyone who exhibits a tribal mentality? Are you willing to PREACH nationalism to Somalis?
Because, at this point, that would be step A.

Voltage is despairing because he's coming to recognize just how much work is needed to be done in order to fix Somalia. He would like to see Somali nationalism already exist so that he can join. He doesn't want to do any of the work that would ignite it...

Somalida waa laba koox, Hutu iyo non Hutu
Somalia before 1991 waxa u badna non Hutu

Murax wrote:First of all lets get the facts straight. Somalia was built by Non Somalis. Baraawe, Kismaayo, Mogadishu, Marka were all founded by Arab, Portuigise, Persian merchants. This isn't some bullshyt made out of thin air these folks although they were ethnically cleansed by USC some still stubbornly live there. They are the ones that established these cities, linked Somalia with the outside world, put Somalia on the map through trade. The role of Somalis was as herdsman who would come in the city during the day to sell milk, meat, etc. and then have to be out by nightfall back to the baadiye. This status quo for the most part remained until the Colonisers came, who replaced the former elite (Non Somalis) and took over the Country. When the Colonizers left and transferred power instead of transferring it to the elite societies that established the Countries vibrant cities, they instead transferred the Country to "Soomalis".
For one lets ask ourselves what is "Somali"? Nationhood cannot be forced upon a people who never believed in the concept of a nation to begin with. Somalis are nothing more than a conglomerate of herdsman who always functioned as independent tribal units. There was never any history of Somalis in our history recognizing the concept of a Country called Somalia. Take a Isaaq in Hawd for instance. He probably thinks the Isaaq area of Hawd is as much His home (In Ethiopia) as Hargeisa is. A Ogadeen believes Jigjiga is as much His home as Afmadow. Somalia's history is clan fiefdoms and never has there been a unifed, kingdom called Somalia or a collective buying in of the population to the idea. So in essense Nationhood is trying to be forced on a people who do not even remotely believe in the fundamental concepts of it.
It doesn't matter whether You go to Lebanaon, Angola, Iraaq, Ethiopia. I have met people from all these Countries and one thing they have in common is they actually truly believe in the concept of the Nation. This is something that is absent in Somalis, and what makes them unique from other people. Your tribe is Your nation and You can be in Phoinex Arizona, if You have some clan members with You, You're straight.
Best piece I have ever read in Somalinet.

Kacaanka was an unnatural period. When Siad said he was not president but the guard of Lazareti (Somalia's biggest insane asylum), he was right. It was unnatural for Somalis to function as a nation and they were budding to be released back to their normality.

So there was no central authority for all Somalis. But these examples have showed that Somalis from different clans could live under a Somali ruled, Somali founded state.
Where have you heard of a Sultanship that existed for one generation with one man? Who preceeded Kenadeed whose name you know? No one. And even Kenadeed took over Hobyo with the mercenaries from Hadramout.
