Knight of Wisdom wrote:I am totally disgusted in how people talk about Ethiopia, as if it is Dajjal's living room. I've been to Ethiopia, and lived their for quite a while. Okay, it was only for 1 year. Fine, but I consider that to be "quite a while". Anyways, the 12 months I've lived in Ethiopia, I felt as if I was at home, nevertheless, I knew Ethiopia was actually not where my country is. Even though, many Somalis call "Somalia" as their country, the truth is, never was there something called "Somalia" in the history of Mankind. The so-called country of Somalia was formed in 1960, furthermore, even though it was formed, it's real borders were not marked. Hence, the destruction that the Somali people are facing today, is the result of the colonial thieves that took advantage of its reckless powers that Allah gave them [temporarily].

Back to the story. :) I've traveled to JigJiga, and I was dazzled. What I have seen was something I had not expected. I use to hear stories of how their once use to be a WSLF (Western Somali Liberation Front) and they use to fight for the reconquest of their lawfully inherited territory that was besieged by the demonized Amaharic and Tigre peoples of Northern Ethiopia (Formerly known as Axum Empire). Due to lack of self-condifence in the then-Somali Government lead by Major General. MUhammad Siyaad Barre and due to internal affairs, the WSLF abandoned its former name (Which resemble in the strive of al Somalis) into creating a one-agenda, one-clan dictatorship ideological movement. The ONLF (Ogaden National Libration Front) was formed. My Grandfather once told me that this people were brave and legitimate fighters of Western Somalia. They fought for the right to believe in Islam. I was mind boggled when I saw that people in JigJiga were happy. They were free in praying the five-complosary prayers, and even the Adhan from the Minerates of the Masjiids were functioning perfectly without any obstacles.

I moved on to Dira Dawa, and oh boy ! I started having goosebumps. I thought I was in Somalia. The Somali population, free from any obstacles, free to practice Islam, free to practice their culture took over my sight. The cold breezes from the mountains near Dira Dawa behold my heart. I had a sense of urge to let it out (I LOVE MY LAND), but I thought people would considered me as crazy, thus I would create a bad name for United Kingdom. So, I kept silence, yet I was feeling my patience running out. I kept a firm control on my mind and heart. I slowly moved through the streets, with different cultures in one area, I felt as if I was in the midst of the African continent. The Oromo culture side by side with the Somali and Amahara and the Hararian cultures. What more can a human being ask for? Was I in Noah's Ark (LoL) ? ;)

Finally, when I came to Addis Ababa (New Flower), I realized that its name had a profound history behind it. Addis Ababa was nothing that I expect it to be. During the Eiid-Celebrations, the city of Addis Ababa comes to live. It turns into Mecca, the streets filled with people celebrating the most important Islamic celebration marking the end of Ramadan. People with White Khamis and females with Black or White Hijaabs covers the longest and largest street of Addis Ababa (Forgot the name of it, pardon me :( ) I was bedazzled. At those moments, my mind was curious of why the so-called "ONLF" were struggling for, when the religious freedom of the Muslims were so highly respected? I had so many different questions zooming into my mind and heart. Why do Somalis hate the stability of Ethiopia, when in fact Ethiopia is 45% Muslim, with over 6 million Somalis residing in Ethiopia? I thought to myself, that YES, the Somalis within Addis Ababa, Dira Dawa and JigJiga are truly happy for what Ethiopia has done for them and the religious freedom Ethiopia has granted the Muslim population of Ethiopia, even though, the majority of Ethiopia's population is Muslim. :D Honestly, I have no hatred or animosity for Ethiopia, in fact, I see Ethiopia as my country as well. Hypothetically speaking, if Ethiopia gave back the so-called "Western Somalia" back to the Somali people and the so-called country of Somalia, would that at least satisfy the Somali people, perhaps turn their minds and hearts from slaughtering each other and into building a democratically elected Government to do good for the people that has been treated as rodents and insignificant by their own.

I am not in any way, shape or form a traitor, or justifying in the bloodshed that has taken place in Eastern Africa for the past thousands of years. So please, cry me a river if I offended you (As some will claim to have been offended)
Nothing but hogwash really.

have you failed to see the massive rights abuses the Ethiopian regime has committed in the Somali region, in what has been termed as "Genocide" and your telling me we can pray five times a day.

Perhpas you forgot Ethiopia was a totalitarian regime controlled by the minority Tigray, which came to power in the early 90's.The regime under Meles is no different to that of the Mengistu or Haile Selassie known for there brutal subjugation in the Somali Region(Ogaden).Since coming to power he dissolved the democratically elected Regional Admin(ONLF) and replaced them with a client admin, not only has he crippled the Somali region politically but his regime has marginlized it economically. There are no schools, rarely any roads or hospitals(if there is, its impoverished or ill-equiped for any work),almost all the people are jobless, rarely any development projects, few NGO's,no Media or Journalist allowed. This region is on of the most backward in the World and you ask why do they seek Justice? Your condoning a State which has Killed,Murdered, raped en-masse, starved the population by diverting food aid then killed off there remaining livestock or confiscated it, raised militia's Ganjaweed style to pillage the people. The State which you love so much continues to have Military Garrisons across the Ogaden similar in fashion to the Colonist era, where it terrorizes citizens of the cities they hold for ransom.Meles is a War Criminal and we the Somali's of the Ogaden will pursue every avenue to rid ourselves of this Criminal Goverment.

The damage this regime has done as it continues its illegal occupation of the Ogaden is unimaginable, its disturbing. But is it the Somali region only, most of Ethiopia lingers in this desperate state aswell.

At a time when the world is uncovering the reality of the Ogaden situation, its really a shame this has come out of you.Dont come here and tell us about your romantic holiday, when clealry you dont even have a grasp of the world you visited...

Before i forget Ethiopia has hundreds of Culamaa in Jail(Guantanamo of Africa), I personally remember how they murdered the Imam in Dhagaxbuur. In the Somali region aot of them are harrassed aswell, they practice freely but they cannot complete there mandate as religious leaders.Eid? so a 45% muslim state is supposed to Ban Eid?.Friday is also a Working day in Ethiopia, Meles changed it to this. Many of the leading Culumaa have been handpicked by the State/Federal regime's.The major Somali Culumaa cannot vist the region and give sermons as they wish, The Orthodox Church is powerful enough to influence the State and is treated with great regard but the Muslims dont even have proper representation in Goverment, just a bunch of dude's working for there own buck...I dont see the Freedom in this.In Mogadishu we remember how they use to piss in the mosques and murder its inhabitants, The Meles Goverment is responsible for the 20,000 plus Somali's that were killed in Mogadishu during there occupation.it is also responsible for its 19 years of supporting criminals in Somalia to keep it stateless.

A Goverment hell-bent on keeping the Somali under its influence or rule, is not to be respected and you are a traiter for your disgusting post

KW, i dont think you would be doubtful of Ethiopia had it been your family that was wiped out completely, i recall recently a tacsi for a lady who's family was all murdered recently, while the Granmother died of a heart attack upon seeing the carnage infront of her.

Or maybe this should be your village burnt to the ground, the men rounded up killed and the women raped.

Great post by hanqadh.

It's not only the Ogaden that suffer as well. People from the Oromia/Gambella and even Amhara region. The so called Ethiopia cenus in 2007 claimed 34% of Ethiopians adhere to Islam. The Muslims population in Ethiopia in 2004 was 32 %. But in 2007 it' 33.2%. Are you telling Muslims only grew by 1% for the last 13 years.

Oxidant, it is no secret sxb that Meles is underestimating the Muslim population for his own ambition. The Muslim population is colonised and the coloniser is an adherent of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church one of the oldest Church establishements, one which holds a huge grudge for its Muslim neighbour or subjects in this case.In Harar Christians Celeberate there Holidays openly(Tigray&Amhara) on the streets in a Holy Islamic city of over 99 mosques but this cant be done in there northern cities of Axum or Gondar.

The Ethiopians themselves are in rebellion, we saw how unpopular he is when he stole the 2005 election and subsequently killed hundreds on the streets of Addis. The Elections are coming in May again, I look forward to this.

Digdahab thanks, to answer your questions yes there are a lot of amxaars in the somali region as well as oromo's, turegs, gambala, and other minorities. In Dhagaxbuur there is a heavy presence of Amxaar civilians near the Main Road that pass through the city. But they usually don't wander out into other parts of the city.

hanqadh

i tottaly agree on the matter about religious freedom you've expressed. the woyaane regime under males does opresss the muslims throughout the country.
i was recently there for a few days and i've noticed that while friday is a working day for all ( yes including all muslims) sunday is a non working day for all even if you are a muslim you are not allowed to work on a sunday. when it comes to eid and festivals parts of london and birmingham (uk) seems to be more of a muslim country than ethiopia with 45% muslim population.

a question though?

why when talking about the plight of the somalis in ethiopia, people only talk about the ogadens and ogaden towns. where infact somalis everywhere in ethiopia are subjected to oppression and humiliation by the melez regime ?
