Somalia is sabotaged and abused by foreign hands and their stooges. People should understand that. I personally have never hidden my identity and proud to be a Somali citizen of the Somali Republic. If we were letting our heads down like they are doing in many parts of the Islamic world, we would be like them but what do they get going for them? Egypt, a Muslim nation of over 85 Million people watches and even participates the abuse and imposed genocide against defenseless Palestinian people. There are many Muslim nations who are like Egypt and as far as I am concerned are the worst in this world today.

If we were letting our heads down like they are doing in many parts of the Islamic world, we would be like them but what do they get going for them? I dont hide my Somali identity and honestly, many of us raised in the West are struggling with their identity. Imagine the struggles of these youth in pondering whether they should latch on to their clan loyalty like the generations before them, embrace their Somalihood(just trying to figure out what that is even is a challenge) or just adopt their country of refugee? Egyptians and others like them might be participating in the genocides of other people, but we are far worse. We are assisting each other in our own destructions, nationally,socially,regligiously...etc!! I'll take pride in being Somali, but lets first tell the difference between delusional,empty pride and the real situation we are in.

I saw on CNN one of the people from the innumerable foreign policy think tanks talking about al-Shabab, and she kept emphasizing three things

1) al-Shabab are just like al-Qaeda
2) al-Shabab is part of al-Qaeda
3) Did I mention al-Qaeda?

So now every Somali everywhere is now a potential member of al-Qaeda

that is their aim! and by the look of it, is working.

From the time countries such as Afghanistan and Iraq are light years ahead of any part of Somalia, that says enough. I mean with even strict immigration controls around the world, somalis are the only people that are almost guaranteed assylum into any country. That alone speak volume. The passport is not recognised, the people live in destitute conditions and the country itself is almost a centruy behind their neighbours in all forms of development. Forget politics for a minute and saying somalia is screwed is an understatement. How long will people look to the former glories of Somalia and realise what somalia is today.

Some people look at the glass half-full, I am not one of them.

Where you see anarchy, I see capitalism.
Where you see a lack of security, I see an abundance of freedom.
Where you see a lack of institutions and infrastructure, I see a fresh start.
