I'm actually interested to hear the answer to this one. What are the Marehan towns in Jubbada Hoose?
^

Has anyone stepped up yet to answer this question?

Kismaayo=Jubbada Hoose :up:

And we all know who was in control Pre Shabab and we all know who will fill the vaccum in the inevitable fall one day of Shabab 8-)

^How would you do that? Times change, there won't be a one clan domination in Kismayo. MJ were the last clan that had monopoly on Kismayo, JVA was a sharing between HG and Marexaan and we know how Ceyr backstabbed Hiiraale, marka how are you guys gonna reclaim Kismayo? You will need a coalition, so with whom will you work with?

Their time is over. First time Cayr rode to Kismayo with them, second time Ethiopia & Abdullahi Yusuf cleared the path and Hiiraale was #2 in Kismayo behind Afguduud before he turned against red-lips. Hiiraale doesn't stand a chance, a small group of cagdheer youths chased him into Gedo last time around.

IF Marehan actually lived in Jubbada Hoose they would have a chance at dominating the region politically and culturally rather than just with force, but the closest place they settle that is even remotely close to Kismayo is Bardheere. Their relationship to Kismayo is the same as Cayr had to Marka, I don't know why they think their relationship is any different.

In another major setback for international efforts to bring peace to Somalia, a violent power struggle between two sub-clans in the port city of Kismayo is fueling fear that an all-out clan war could erupt at any time and destabilize a key region of southern Somalia. VOA Correspondent Alisha Ryu reports from our East Africa Bureau in Nairobi.

After days of skirmishes between Marehan and Majerteen sub-clan militias in the country's third-largest city, residents of Kismayo say heavy fighting erupted on Friday, killing and wounding dozens of people.

The Marehan and the Majerteen belong to the larger Darod clan, recognized as one of the four major clans in Somalia.

A Somali aid worker in Kismayo, Ali Bashi, tells VOA that the militiamen of both sub-clans are technically Somali government troops and government supporters, who are nevertheless bitterly divided along clan lines.

Bashi says Friday's clash in Kismayo between the Marehan and the Majerteen follows a battle the two sides fought on April 23.

After the battle, Majerteen soldiers withdrew from Kismayo to the town of Bulo Gadud, 35 kilometers away, leaving the city and its strategic port in the hands of the Marehan.

In recent days, Majerteen troops have been seen moving closer to Kismayo. On Thursday, at least four people were wounded when one group of clan militiamen attacked another.

The Marehan's grip on Kismayo appears now to have tightened. VOA has learned that Marehan troops entered Bulo Gadud on Friday and declared victory over the Majerteen sub-clan.

Since the 1990s, Kismayo has been the center of various Darod sub-clan power struggles.

But the latest fighting has many Somalis concerned that interim President Abdullahi Yusuf, who is a Majerteen and kinsman to the soldiers defeated by the Marehan, could launch a retaliatory strike against the Marehan and start a major clan war.

Since capturing the Somali capital, Mogadishu, from Islamist forces in late December, President Yusuf's Ethiopian and western-backed government has promised to end clan politics and unify the country after 16 years of civil war.

But many Somalis in the capital and elsewhere say clan divisions recently have become sharper than ever, and they accuse top government leaders of manipulating those divisions to benefit their own clans and sub-clans.

Meanwhile, a government-imposed nighttime curfew in Mogadishu went into effect on Friday. The government says the curfew is necessary to curb attacks by insurgents who have targeted government officials, Somali police, and Ethiopian troops.

In recent weeks, Ethiopian and Somali troops have searched businesses and houses throughout the capital, confiscating several truckloads of munitions and weapons, including land mines, mortars, rockets, and missiles.

You just proved my point there, Marehan never took Kismayo alone - the article highlights that they were in the city behind a Majerteen force. The mayor of Kismayo with the TFG in 2007 was Ibrahim Timjilac, he's Ciise Maxamud. Like I said, you guys are solely a military force in Kismayo akin to Indhocadde in Marka but you have no permanent presence; if your military moves on Kismayo don't work you are virtually non-existent in the city and the region.

^^

You think the ICU, Shabab etc. are are clans that can be defeated by another clan. ICU were on the footsteps of Galkacyo and Ethio troops were there along with Cadde Muuse wearing His famous tuute and the Eithos entered before they can attack it. If Eithos never came they would have captured all of Somalia, just like Shabab would capture all of Somalia if not for the 10.000 Africans. However in the absence of these Internationally funded/armed groups Marexaan fill the vaccum in Jubooyinka against other Somali clans. I'm not saying this out of facism or anything else, but its just the way it is. Out of any of the groups that live in any of the 3 gobols, the only clan that is hellbent and will stop at nothing to vill the void is Marexaan.

MONK, if Marexaan are non existent in Kismayo why do I have so many relatives there, and whats a man from Garowe talking about Jubbada hoose? Isn't Baardheere geographically, culturally and clandestinely closer to Jubbada Hoose than a man from Garowe?

Does anyone have an answer for this question? It can't be that hard to answer if you actually live in the region.

Again, this is a desperate attempt to hide the reality. Today There are mlitias that are ready to fight Barre all over Gedo, Why don't We ask "Where are Sade's deegan in Gedo"? He Had to fight to enter B Xaawo, I guess B Xaawo is not a Marexaan town :?

If You are interested in the truth Marexaan are by far the strongest, most dominant group in the region.

"In June, 2008, the Gedo region was described as relatively stable, but was the scene of greater insurgent activity in the autumn. The Marehan clan has consolidated its position in Gedo, but there are conflicts iwth the Rahanweyn
clan in the area, and the situation in Gedo is closely connected with the sitution and chanaged in the condiitons related to the powers in Kismayo in Lower Juba. The UN reported in the tlast week of October that a total of 22
civilians were injured when an unkown perpetrator threw hand grenades at two civilian targets n Bulo Hawa in Gedo.
One of these was aimed at a house inhabited bya a member of the TFG, and the other was aimed at a house in which
internally displaced persons lived (UNHCR 2008b). (Landinfo (12 November 2008) Conflict, security and clan protection in South South Somalia, p. 15)"

Whoever controls Gedo controls Kismaayo, and thats how the game is played. Btw, do You know Xusseen Fiilow the Shabab Army commander in Jubooyinka for hte past 3 years was a Ex JVA Member Himself and the one who was at the forefront of the demolition of Raskambooni and Your beloved Caanoole? Even as a terrorist You didn't make Yourself relevant in Jubooyinka and now You wanna tell Me You're relevant as a farmer. So You gonna rake at Col Barre with Your farming tools When He comes to Kismaayo

Was NY24 correct?

Why isn't anyone stepping up to answer this VERY simple question?

Habar Gidir dominated Xamar since 1990 and actually had a large population in the city before the civil war yet they are nowhere even close to being the majority.

NY24 asked a simple question to educate himself, why can't it be answered. We know Marexaan live in Galguduud and Gedo and we know specifically where in those regions; but we don't know of a Marehan population center in Jubbada Hoose, can someone correct us?
