The problem I see is the pace we are suddenly undergoing where our youth are in the prisons in greater number in comparison to other communities who almost came probably the sametime that the mass Somali refugees were resettled in the USA. You add that the increasing number of robberies that Somali youth have committed and this prostitution ring that is being reported today. I don't know about you but it is a trend that really worries me. As a community, I believe we should look inward and understand what are the underlying causes that are driving our youth to be in this situation. In my view, it is a problem that the Somali parents and conmmunity leaders are responsible since we never evaluate our quest to move in lowe income housing complexes in the middle of ghettos. We can say " We will have ppl who commit crimes, just like any other community has" but I don't see it resolving our problems. I think we need to look inward and see what can we do to save the rest of our children from this dangerous path and how can we help those who are already caught up in the system.

In my view, it is no coincidence that Somali youth in Minneaplois-MN, Columbus-Ohio, Nashville-TN, Calgary-Alberta-Canada, Toronto-Ontario-Canada, and London-UK are in the prisons in greater numbers. There must be reasons that we, as a community, never evaluated their aftermath when decided to move in those low-income, crime-ridden communities.
